There are many VIN checking sites that will list exactly what equipment your car had installed originally.
Leading evidence: 'Install originally' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check because i don't have the car' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

There are quite a few thread here on replacing the speakers.

I'm not going to go to a convention right now to replace the amp, these are just speakers.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have a
987.2
2011, I like to drive with music, the speakers I have are speakers and the original system. It really does the job, but I would like to replace the coils to get more power,
Has anyone tried replacing just the coils with more power? I'm not going to go to a convention right now to replace the amp, these are just speakers.
I would appreciate any insight
Thanks
There are quite a few threads on this, and the consensus seems to be going with Focal speakers, 8” (with an adapter) in the lower door, I think a 4” in the upper door, and then the tweeters in the dash. Some people disable the center dash speaker saying it sounds better without that. Not sure if you have the
Bose system
or not. I do, and it’s what I was looking into
There is a guy in the UK selling a plug/play speaker update kit which seems pretty reasonable.
I’d give you links but I just closed all those tabs a couple days ago because I’ve been spending too much money on my car lately and needed to remove the temptation.
The short answer is: yes, it is possible to update just the speakers in the system.
As in, literally replacing the coils? Uh, I guess so, but if you're good enough to do that, then you already know it can be done. Personally, I wouldn't bother. Get the Focals like Caylman suggested.
I suspect
@eyala
didn't exactly mean the voice coils on the existing speakers. I think he was talking about the actual speakers - replacing them.
I'll note - the stock speakers are not that bad. People complain about them - but that's almost always with ones where the foam-edge surround on the cones has failed. If that edging is replaced - they actually sound quite decent if you have a decent headunit powering them (the AliExpress one works fine with them..) Trick is finding the edging. They're an odd-ball size speaker. Between a 6" and 8" - metric dimensioned. I have a posting somewhere here with a link to a source for replacement edge supports for them - rubber supports that won't rot out in 15 years like the foam ones do... they were spec'd for an Audi speaker - go figure - parts crossover much?
There are quite a few thread here on replacing the speakers. Some clever ones where people managed to put full 8" speakers in and have everything fit. It usually involves some cutting of the plastic surround basket for the speakers, but nothing too difficult to do. Some searching will probably find them.
A hint - Google is much better than our built in search engine for searching Planet-9. On Google you can direct it to search a specific website by adding to your search phrase "site: planet-9.com" followed by the search term, in this case I'd suggest "987 speakers" (I just tried and got 10 pages of results).. the search I used was
"Hello, thank you all for your response. Indeed, I am talking about
replacing the speakers
, not because they have dried out, but because the
volume level
is not satisfying me. They are excellent, but I would be happy for a little more volume (overall, they are totally fine). On the one hand, I do not intend to get involved in a project involving wiring, amplifiers, and crazy crossovers. Instead, I only want to replace the speakers with ones that will provide me with a bit more volume. I would appreciate links to installations others have done, and generally to models that can simply replace the existing speakers
without any cutting or mess (no modifications/hassle)
. Thank you

scrdistribution.co.uk
This is the only presumed plug and play kit I’ve seen. They have kits for both Bose and ASK. No idea if it is any good, and the use of 3D printed components could be fine or a disaster, depending on what materials they used.
Otherwise, you will be doing a little bit of fettling to fit individual components to fit the seemingly proprietary speaker sizes and wiring/connect in our cars.
Not sure why you need more volume, as I’ve never turned my audio up all the way, but we all have our own reasons.
good luck!
I'm just saying, I'm pretty big into the car audio scene, and it's not uncommon at all for people to replace voice coils after they burned them. This is absolutely a thing.
That said, I now see that OP did misspeak. He means the whole speaker, not just the coils.

יש לי את מערכת
PCM
3.0 המקורית, כפי שאני מבין אותה, אין מגבר חיצוני, אלא מגבר של ה-
PCM
עצמו. צ'אט GPT שלח אותי לכמה אתרים שלא ממש עבדו לי לפי מספר ה-VIN שלי,
אז אני מתחיל מהמחשבה שהמסכה היא
PCM
3.0 ללא מגבר.
מכאן עולה השאלה, איזה סוג של רמקולים יש ברכב, אני חושב 8 אינץ'
כמה רמקולים יש ברכב {כפי שהבנתי 2} בכל דלת.
והאם בשורה התחתונה בנתונים שיש לי שווה בכלל להחליף את הרמקולים כי אין מגבר?
מצורפת תמונה שהורדתי מהאינטרנט, זו המערכת שיש לי ברכב.
Using

What you have isn't a combination I've ever seen in US 987's. Even the minimal systems, without a display, have more than 2 speakers. If all you have is two speakers, then adding additional speakers might help the sound being more accurate or better "imaging" it won't do much for the volume level without additional amplification.
The PCM 3.0 is interesting since it apparently is connected to a phone running Spotify and an alternative navigation app.
BTW - please do use Google translate to post in English, it's the language of the forum - thanks!
You've posted that you have a 2011
Boxster
Black Edition. According to Google:
"
The 2011 Porsche Boxster Black Edition came standard with the BOSE Surround Sound-System, which includes 11 speakers and a 385W output with a subwoofer. It was also equipped with the
Sound Package Plus
as a standard option on some models, though the Bose system was part of the standard Infotainment package for the Black Edition. "
So something isn't right. Even if it only had SPP that would have seven speakers.
I guess it might of been ordered with only the base sound system which only had 2 dash speakers and one in each door but those door speakers were IIRC 165mm ( 6.5") not 8".
There are many VIN checking sites that will list exactly what equipment your car had installed originally. That would include all option packages. Are you sure it was the specialty "Black Edition" version? I believe it should have a special dash plaque with its production number and usually some other bling comes with the special limited production versions .
A previous owner might of created a cloned imitation.
Hello,
It did take me a while to check because I don't have the car. I put it in my wife's parents' garage because I don't have room at home. My wife and I have a garage from work.
But I checked and there is a
PCM
system. There is no Boss logo or anything like that, so I believe it is an original system that came with the car.
I checked and found that on the dashboard I have 2 tuners in addition to the 2 speakers in the doors.
Amplifier? I didn't find one.
Thank you very much for your answer
So what do I know now about the
PCM
system
It's not a
Bose
, right?
What speakers can I have there for a
987.2
car
Thank you very much
In my wife's
Cayman
, we replaced the speakers with Focal Integrations. 8" in the doors, 4" in the door cards, 19mm tweeters in the dash, and 4" coaxes in the rear shock towers.
I did a full write up on Pelican with pictures about replacing all my speakers if it will help.
