The one issue with the 997 sport seats is that if they are slid forward enough, they won't fully tilt forward using the top handle if you are getting access to the back.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Will 997 adaptive Sport Seats FIT in a 2000 996 Cab? Inquiring minds wanna know! Any information provided is greatly appreciated 😎

POST 2Original post

There are many YouTube and previous rennlist info on this

POST 3Original post

They bolt right in but will require wiring work.

POST 4Original post

They fit. I installed 997 sport seats in my 996.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you to all. I dont need YouTube for something as simple as a seat swap. I just needed a little knowledge on fitment before diving in. Should be a nice upgrade as the 997 seats are deep with bolsters for spirited driving. Ill put the 996 seats in the 928 Euro (my daily driver) for the 4 way lumbar on long hauls. Thanks again.

The one issue with the 997 sport seats is that if they are slid forward enough, they won't fully tilt forward using the top handle if you are getting access to the back. I only experience it when I'm taking a kid out of the car seat. So if I slide the seat all the way forward, then pull the handle to tilt the seat forward to take them out, the top of the seat contacts the sun visor. All you have to do is slide back the seat an inch to clear it. Not a big deal at all, but worth mentioning. Most people rarely have backseat passengers where this would be an issue. Not sure if this happens with the 996 sport seats as well, but I don't recall it happening with the standard 996 seats my car used to have.

POST 7Original post

You may also want to swap the seatbelt buckles from the 996 seat onto the 997 seat. I did this on mine. I think the pins in the connector are slightly different so the wiring isn't plug and play unless you do that. For the adaptive and power options you're kinda on your own. I cut the connector off my 996 seat and spliced it into the 997 seat wiring so that I didn't have to modify any of the chassis-side wiring for my car but I was lucky in that I went from manual seats with power tilt to manual seats with power tilt so everything was straightforward.

I did this as well but spliced into the 997 seat wires instead of cutting the 996 seat.

Good work. I would like to do this. It's not the bolt in part that's hard. The wiring part isn't as straightforward and that I haven't researched. Where did you find it?

POST 10Original post

Quotes source post: 18035814

There's a guy with a Millenium Edition here that did it and had a good write up. For manual slide/power tilt seats like mine there are only two wires (power and ground) so there wasn't really any guesswork there. You just have to trace the wires and make sure that you're actually looking at the wires going to the adjustment motor and not the airbag wires 987/997 2-Way Heated Sport Seats Conversion Guide - Rennlist - Porsche Discussion Forums

I have done a ton of mods to my car. The 997 GT3 seats are probably my favorite. Every time I drive her, it feels like she is hugging me.

Has anyone removed the airbag from the side of the seat? 1) it would probably reduce weight 2) 996s have side airbags in the doors 3) most aren't going to be wired up anyway also where are you guys finding the seats? Ebay? Wreckers? What do they usually run you?

POST 16Original post

I am surprised to see so many people putting in 997 sport seats. What is the reason for this? Do people prefer the look/feel/comfort of them? Are they more plentiful or cheaper than 996 sport seats?

POST 17Original post

Quotes source post: 18050569

They're extremely comfortable. My car had base seats and I've never sat in a 996 with factory sport seats so I can only compare my 997 sport seats to my 996 base seats. I think there are a lot more 997 seats kicking around - they were also used in the 987 chassis cars. Mine came from a Cayman and were $200 so it was an extremely easy choice for me. I got lucky.

Sit in a 996 seat and you'll know why...

POST 20Original post

Im on my second 996 and moved from base to sport seats. I love my sport seats and the fact that they are period correct. I dont know if they are less comfortable than 997 sport seats but I also dont put 997 rims on my 996.

I have never sat in a 997 sport seat, but I really like my 996 sport seats and have zero complaints about them. They do a great job at keeping you positioned well, while still being very comfortable. They also look great in my opinion.

$200 for sport seats??? That's the deal of a lifetime! Congrats!

POST 23Original post

Quotes source post: 18050833

I don't think "period-correct" is the right term. Aside from the stitching pattern, the seats look almost identical. Perhaps, what you mean is "model specific", but the 996 and 997 are very similar and share a lot of common parts. They are not really from different time periods/eras.

POST 24Original post

Quotes source post: 18033904

This is true of 996 hardbacks too (manual ones at least). If I have my seat all of the way up, the headrest hits the ceiling when I try to put the backrest forward for rear seat access.

POST 25Original post

Quotes source post: 18050569

I found my 997 Sport seats here in the classifieds. There were a few contributing factors that convinced me to purchase them: 1) the hard backs were/are painted the color of my car (they look amazing). 2) Yes they are way more comfortable and supportive than the stock (non sport) seats. 3) They were available at a very reasonable price. 4) They have the embossed Porsche emblem on the headrest.

If you're going from 996 base seats to 997 Sport seats, the difference is huge. But 996 Sport to 997 Sport? Unless you go from manual 996 Sports to adaptive 997 Sports (which requires a whole lot of wiring work to install right), I can't imagine you're going to get a huge improvement.

This is a nice video but comes up Shy on actual installation Beyond delivering your car to a mechanic, giving him the seats, and showing him your credit card. And then, of course, crossing your fingers the airbag light and controls work to your liking.
