The only way I could think of to get round this problem in future would be to unlock the car, key in the ignition, lock the central locking via the dashboard button, disconnect the battery and get out.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Had to remove the battery this evening to charge it up (BTW, think its had it - any recommendations other than the Bosch Silver or Vartas). Put key in ignition and turned electrics on so that the alarm didn't go wild when I disconnected the battery. All this went to plan, battery out ok but when I came to lock the car, I found the central locking had left the passenger door unlocked. I got round this by slinging in a spare battery to provide current to the car, then locking and alarming as normal. The only way I could think of to get round this problem in future would be to unlock the car, key in the ignition, lock the central locking via the dashboard button, disconnect the battery and get out. Would this work or is there another trick or do I just need a spare battery on hand?? Cheers John

POST 2Original post

Interesting brain teaser this one. I assume you want to lock the car with the battery removed. The only way I can think of doing it is as you suggest, but it would be a 2-person job. One will have to stay inside the car with the doors locked by the dash switch and turn on the ignition. The other will have to disconnect the battery. Then the driver's door could be opened by the person inside, which shouldn't unlock the passenger side. The driver's side could then be locked with the key. You don't say what year your car is, but if you have electric bonnet opening, you will have to make a connection to the terminals on the fuse panel to open it if you shut the bonnet with the battery disconnected.

POST 3Original post

Had to replace my battery earlier in the year and went for a Bosch Silver. From memory I had the key in the ignition in position 1 and then swapped the batteries over. No problems with c/locking or radion codes etc. Its a 2004 C2 btw
