Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

I just finished going thru the Major Maintenance Checklist for my 08 987. I didn’t reset the cycle on the computer so now I’m getting service due soon. How do I reset the service cycle in my computer. I’m assuming that it is referring to the oil cycle. Has anyone had this? How do I reset?

POST 2Original post

You need a 2 way communication device like PIWIS , durametric, Foxwell , or Icarsoft Porsche specific tools. They will all have a way to reset the maintenance minder. I have the icarsoft PorV4 as my tool of choice. Foxwell is probably the most popular, durametric is the fanciest consumer grade option, and the PIWIS is Porsche factory, but clones can be had, but it’s more involved/expensive (but the most powerful).

POST 3Original post

I use an old iCarSoft v2 to reset maintenance warnings. Agree, with Caylman, I'm considering buying a Durametric unit.... and/or a PWIS clone.. which is expensive... and the PWIS purchase websites are "flaky"..... I would listen to a preferred sourcing on PWIS clones? The ICarSoft v2 would likely work for your 2008 987. Durametric or PWIS units are needed to do a comprehensive PPI on a Porsche vehicle.

POST 4Original post

If you use a PIWIS for any coding, and it even says this in the manual, it requires a 100A power supply to be hooked up to the car while it's doing its thing. That's why I won't use one until I get my shop built where I will have access to a 240VAC outlet for my power supply.

POST 5Original post

Very good to know about the 100A power supply for a PWIS coding capability.... but frankly this makes little sense. Why does it need that much amperage? I didn't plan to do coding, but there are some maintenance tasks that iCarSoft won't handle... i.e. the PDK fluid/oil change.... I do have a portable gen set, kinda, that has a 220/240V output. I know you do want a "clean" power source for any ECU/ECM updates.... I guess European power sources are generally 220/240V at the outlet....not 110V.
