Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I watched a vid a couple of years back where an American had fitted an LS engine to his 996 (?) which did not work out well, as the engine suffered bearing failure as the result of oil starvation under acceleration, given the engine is fitted facing "backwards" when fitted in a Porsche...

Hi all, Porsche purists don’t shoot me down … I have just purchased a 3.4 996 1998 130k, I’m doing a LS swap with it but would like peoples opinions on selling the current engine, it has 130k miles and been bore scoped and ims check 5k miles ago with invoice to prove.

To reply to this, given the cost of replacing an engine, would you do it for one with 130K on it?

Hartech quote was £16500 ish with a min starting cost of £3600 + VAT for the basic rebuild including removal & re-fitting, the gasket/seal set, fluids etc.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

What sort of ££££ should I sell it for ??
Thanks in advance
I'm not going to shoot you down, but doing an LS Swap on a 911 is like wearing crocs.....I'm not allowed to finish the joke as I'll get banned.
Be a man, do a 3.7 upgrade instead. Forever desiresble and still the glory of a flat 6 behind you
Dyno torque who have done a few now in Birmingham quoted
“ it’s around £17,000 all new engine etc , that’s new engine , coils , water pump clutch etc etc makes for a great car”
yeah, I got a price just out on interest and was surprised not much in it between a hartech rebuild and a LS. Hartech quote was £16500 ish with a min starting cost of £3600 + VAT for the basic rebuild including removal & re-fitting, the gasket/seal set, fluids etc. Additional parts needed are chargeable on top of this base cost.
Haha, I presumed they were done because people couldn't afford to get the proper engine sorted.
Don't get me wrong, I think the LS engines are great, but the ones I have driven seem to be a complete opposite to what the Porsche offers, which is what makes the Porsche so much fun.
Bizarre.
i'd have to question the handling afterwards as well, it's taken porsche thousands of hours of research to get the car to where it was to then change all the weight and placement can't be great , [just a thought]
I watched a vid a couple of years back where an American had fitted an LS engine to his 996 (?) which did not work out well, as the engine suffered bearing failure as the result of oil starvation under acceleration, given the engine is fitted facing "backwards" when fitted in a Porsche... I guess the oil pickup point in the sump may have played a part..? I do think that there are a variety of sumps available for LS engines, though whether oil pickup tubes come in different configurations or not...???
Have to second the Audi choice. Lots of similar parts and so on. LS is going to be a project that never ends, and unsellable in the future, should that matter.
Personally I'd go for a max oversize from Hartech. You know it will work.
But hey, we all like a project, so good luck !
To reply to this, given the cost of replacing an engine, would you do it for one with 130K on it? You might if the engine was super cheap, but 1-2K would seem tops (finger in the air), with all the ancillaries included.
