I am having quite a strange issue with my doors and could do with some advice from anyone who knows a little more than me about the electrical side of this car.
So for the drivers door, the window switch block doesn’t work at all. Neither does the side mirror adjustment block. The window doesn’t go up or down when the door handle is pulled. The speaker and puddle light both work, so the door is getting power.
For the passenger door, the switch block does work, but is inverted, so pressing down makes it go up and vice versa. It also doesn’t go down when the handle is pulled. Again the speaker and puddle light both work.
I just had the doors off and disassembled to wrap my car, along with the battery being disconnected for about 2.5 weeks.
I have checked the electrical connectors in both doors, and all are connected properly. With regards to the inverted passenger switch, the plug can only go on one way, so it’s not on backwards.
The only thing I can think it might be, is a broken wire from when I pulled the harness through the door and body.
I plan on testing wires with a multimeter, but not entirely sure what I’m doing in this realm so any input is appreciated
Quick update:
I removed the drivers door card, and tested the power and ground pins on the control unit connector. I tested the ground pin to chassis at 0.2-0.5 ohms resistance, and power pin to chassis at 12.2 volts.
So the module is definitely getting power and the only thing I can think to do
next
is test the continuity of every wire to make sure I didn’t break any when pulling the harness through the door.
After putting the door card back on, the drivers window switch now works but is inverted, and the passenger switch on the drivers side does nothing. The passenger switch on the passenger door still works and is inverted.
It would be much easier to troubleshoot with a good
Porsche
diagnostic OBD2 tool like Durametric,
PIWIS
,
ThinkDiag
,....etc.
Since there doesn't seem to be a way to reverse the connectors, it seems that the control module might of gotten fried or lost it's programming.
I was thinking the same thing about the programming which if I’m not mistaken, is outlined in the owners manual. Break the connection on the battery then a series of holds on the window switches I believe is part of the process.
I know someone with a diagnostic tool with programming capabilities, I’ll give that a shot sometime this week.
Turns out the door control modules are the same either side, and I had them in the opposite doors.
Feel a bit stupid but at least it was an easy fix.
