Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok, now that vesuvius car is off the table I'm going to see this on Thursday. http://tinyurl.com/2f56cq Opinions on price / value for money. Threat price on the website as £1k less, since I'm getting good part exchange for my current car. Regards Voya

POST 2Original post

Much better! Price is good. Options count is low, but I wouldn't trust the dealer to know what the car had anyway (eg those are standard facelift 18" alloys not 19" as advertised). Ask for the Service history and VIL numbers and post up here..... (thats a bit of a price hike from the last one, if this falls through will your next question be about a Carrera GT?[ ])

POST 3Original post

This is a Scottish car have no idea who had it before but a call to the local Glasgow OPC might reveal some off its past history ,as far as price seems not to bad for a 2002 facelift 3.6 the main think is the service history and general condition and if you are happy with the deal that is all that matters in the end.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Rodney, Well as far as price is concerned for this one I'll have to chop in my E-CLASS. As far as spec is concerned well its not 4 but it has heated seats full elec seats elec sunroof Hi-Fi PSM 2 owners 4 new tires service done 600mls ago FULL porsche service history brakes + discs new all around 1000mls ago (all these from porsche with receipts) And its going for 111 check with agreement with dealer to fix everyting that porsche in Leeds flags up. Regards Voya

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hmm, I need to reexamine my priorities, as soon as someone mentions Scotland, the first association is Whisky and haggis. Regards Voya

POST 6Original post

Looks OK to me. Price looks right too. You can always retrofit one or two options afterwards if you want to. Certainly a more straightforward looking car than last time. Ditto to all the above about service history, etc.

POST 7Original post

Even better...You get PSM without the extra weight and loss of 'feel' The spec looks good..and only 2 owners...that's rare these days...with great history...and all the major consumable replaced recently......actually it all sounds very good indeed! p.s I see the handbrake has been upgraded to 'Small ally pack' spec....are there any other aluminium look bits 'n bobs? Looks nice.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Richard have ordered avic d3, but I just realised I have no idea if car is MOST ?!@? Should I cancel the order ? If not, fancy manufacturing one of those suround thingies Regards Voya

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Rodney, There was a thread a bit ago about c2 being too light at high speed. That was one of the big reasons for looking at purple c4. I'll feel sad on one side to see Eclass gone, but on the other hand it will give me oportunity to buy A3 TDI which I think is a cracking car as daily hack and towing thing for [ ] Apparently no tow bars for porsche.

POST 10Original post

i keep an eye on prices as i'm concerned as to how much I'll lose when i sell (!) but 2 owners 57k miles with tip and an easy to sell colour combo for £30k. maybe I'm missing something but IMO looks like a steal at that price! Looks good Voya and like your thinking about the Audi. point out to the dealer you would struggle with 19" on a standard 996 C2 - there's less than a finger width between the front PU (bumper) and the 18" wheels when you have them on full lock! rod, given that it's going through a 111-point inspection, is the service history as important, say compared with the vesuvious model?

POST 11Original post

You had better watch out for the Haggis they can make there nest.s all over the car and this is the breeding season as well[ ][ ] looks a nice car good luck

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

LOL when first time heard 'haggis' very cool Scottish guy (later to became very good friend) explained that they are lil animals we 2 legs shorter so they can run perpendicular to the mountain. Some of the faces in completely captive audience were priceless.

POST 13Original post

A full service history is always very nice, especially for resales, but in terms of actual condition, an inspection is going to be more useful. So yes you're right Sanjib, a full service history would have been more useful in the Vesuvius model. However, the Vesuvius model was a dog, which you can see wasn't taken care of. This one is really nice and has all the boxes ticked. IIRC the poster eventually said it was really just a matter of the car feeling very different to his last. I don't think you'll find many Carrera owners who are unhappy with the balance of the car at high speed. As Richard says you can always easily retrofit some options like cruise/HIDs and a sports exhaust in the future.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I thought that cruise is standard on auto. But then again I thought that purple car for 21k is viable proposition. If the car IS what it says on the tin, its getting 12mnts warranty on thursday and PSE on friday

POST 15Original post

I said much the same to some American visitors who were subsequently invited to go unlicensed haggis hunting by some Scots who had a really good sense of humour. Of course, hunting haggi [plural of haggis] out of season [the season starts and finishes on the first day of April of every year] is a serious criminal offence [ ]. It is punishable by being made to listen to bagpipe music non-stop for not less than 5 hours [ ].

POST 16Original post

Voya - When I had the AVIC-HD1BT fitted to mine the guy said that he could do it on MOST equipped cars, but needed an interface. Where did you order it? If it was from Road Radio (audio66.co.uk) give Steve a ring and ask him what you need. You might also want to do a search on Renntech, because one or two chaps there have fitted them. With the facelift car you will have cupholders at the top, so the aperture should be the right size for double-DIN. I don't think you will need to make a filler trim like I did. The surround that comes with the D3 should fit. I have also seen some Boxster owners on Renntech who have made tow bars! If you are serious about towing the jet-ski you might want to check them out.

POST 18Original post

Cruise was an option, but can be retrofitted relatively easily and cheaply on "your" car. You are dead right to go for the PSE first though!

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Richard, I've looked at rentech, and mavis911 (or similar) did a very good job with surround. I like close to stock as possible hence d3 (illum). I've actually ordered d3 from work supplier (getting trade price). and was thinking about doing it myself. Regards Voya. PS, no not gonna tow jetski with 911, you need to get rear wheels into the water so its gotta be on audi.

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

funny thing, Wife with calculator yesterday ; me : 'ok if we both like the car we are getting it' wife : 'so 30k + 1k warranty + ...' me : 'thats it no more pluses' wife : 'right, so plus 10% for thinkering' me : 'we do spend way too much time together honey, bless'

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

LOL, something tells me that origin of that picture is the land of the free. can you imagine 911 instead of A4 in this picture ; Rgrds Voya PS how do I find out if car is most

POST 23Original post

Sorry Voya - another mental block - MOST was introduced in 2003, so you should be OK.

POST 24 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Excellent ! Now speakers in the doors, do they indicate bose or not necessaary ? Curios one

POST 25Original post

Completely edited version: In 2002 the alternatives were the standard radio or a "sound package" made by Harman. Bose was also available, but it was an analog system. The Harman sound package was option M490, and the CD Changer was M692. Bose is M680. All these sytems are hard-wired - no fibre optics. Let me know if you want the options list

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

What I meant was, on some cars I've seen , bottom of the doors, just pocket holes, and on some speakers there. If that makes more sense. Regards Voya

POST 27Original post

Looks like you have the sound package. The Bose package has 'Bose' written on the speakers.

POST 29 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys much appreciated. Does anyone knows this for certain or can check in one of buying guides (since I'm going to see car thursday.) Dont have time to order book. Does P 111 check covers accident damage ? if not can someone tell me what are the tell tell signs? Regards Voya.

POST 30Original post

Do you mean the sound package? If it has speakers in the doors, it has one of the sound packages. Door pockets = no sound package, just basic radio. There is a copy of the 111-point check in the FAQ section, but you need to be a PCGB member to accress it. I don't believe it covers accident damage, but if you ask the technician to look for signs, I am sure they would. If you would like a copy, drop me an email and I'll attach it to a reply. Body damage. Look for: Uneven panel gaps. Poor paintwork finish. Colour mismatch on panels. Stickers missing from door shut, drivers side (VIN number), luggage compartment lid (VIL option sticker) and engine compartment lid (Mobil One label).. Pull back the luggage compartment carpet at the front, and look for panel damage and lack of caramel coloured sealer. Look down the length of the car from a low position from in front or behind and look for ripples. Not a comprehensive list, but a few pointers.
