For street use, I am running the Vredestein Sprint+ in stock sizes on our three cars on 17" wheels, a niche tire made in sizes for several recent cars; UrQ, 993/986/996, etc.
Leading evidence: 'Run vredestein sprint+ in stock sizes' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Run 32/34 f/r' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
The factory listed pressures are super high for the factory size MPS4S for autox, Ive been running 32/34 f/r.
Run although the variation at autox isnt very much

Yeah those are pressures measured after the run, although the variation at autox isnt very much.

Suggestion
Get a use appropriate alignment and use chalk to check if the tire is rolling over too much and needs pressure at autox.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Those of you with stock 17" wheels - What tires/sizes are you happy with? I'm finding it harder to find "approved" tires for my car. I want good street tires that I can also use for track & autocross a few times a year.
Right now I'm running PS4S at 215 front and 265 rear (stock is 205 & 255). After 3,800 miles 6 autocrosses and one track event the outsides of the tires are shot while the rest of them look almost new. Especially the rear. It could be from under inflation during A/X and not enough negative camber but it could also be from the sidewalls not being supported enough due to the narrower wheels.
Get a use appropriate alignment and use chalk to check if the tire is rolling over too much and needs pressure at autox.
The factory listed pressures are super high for the factory size MPS4S for autox, Ive been running 32/34 f/r. Mine are a couple years old and pretty hard (previous owner) but show virtually no wear from 2 autox and 1000 miles.
If they are burning up at the track they might be over heating. If you are driving hard a non-track tire, even a MPS4S, wont hold up as well as something intended for that use. Im not sure whats in our size, but RS4, RE71 (more performance) or even Indy500 (similar or less performance) will all hold up better under abuse, but trade in some road manners and give you less highway miles.
The MPS4S is probably one of if not the best compromise tire for street and occasional performance use. And very good in the wet. A better alignment will reduce wear and improve your performance, start there. Maybe using more fronts is just the price to be paid.
Good tires you say ... ?

The pressures you mentioned, are those hot pressures for A/X? That's about what I've been running for hot pressures during A/X and ~34/36 cold for normal driving. I'm thinking of bumping those up about 4 lbs.
I wasn't trying to say that the PS4S isn't a good tire. It is. And the wear issues aren't really what I'm worried about. It's more about the sizes that are available vs what Porsche specifies for these cars.
I'm thinking of going with PS4S with the factory widths specified for the 18" wheels: 225/265 F/R. I'm wondering if that would give me too much sidewall flex. I'm also going to take it to a local performance shop and have them re-align with more negative camber. They already took a look and confirmed there is nothing wrong with the suspension.
Yeah those are pressures measured after the run, although the variation at autox isnt very much. Usually the tire in the sun makes a bigger difference!
Yes, the 17" summer tire selection is getting limited in the stock size w/ no Michelin offering and Continental no longer listing them on their website, but Tire Rack still carrying the Contis...at least for now.
For street use, I am running the Vredestein Sprint+ in stock sizes on our three cars on 17" wheels, a niche tire made in sizes for several recent cars; UrQ, 993/986/996, etc. They are a great tire, grippy enough for some fun on roads and roundabouts, decent in the wet and quiet. I would recommend them without reservation, I would not expect them to last long in AutoX but I'd be curious as to how they perform. Plus, they look good on the cars.
Why Vredestein? I have some loyalty to the brand as for a while Vredestein was the only supplier of 'orphan' sizes for a few classic cars (Tr6, Citroen, etc.), and I have had good service from the 5-6 sets that I have had over the years. Figured I would try them on something a bit more modern.
On a related note, a French consultant working on behalf of Michelin interviewed me earlier this year as part of their market research into the "new classic, ~1980+" market and, while I cannot say for sure, it sounded like Michelin may be
considering expanding or re-offering their products for that market. "Oh, we are very aware of the Vredestein" was a quote. I expect the market for stock sized tires may get better. Now to find out which vendor aware of our fleet provided my info to Michelin...I have a thought
Great info. I'll check out the Vredestein & the contis (along with the RS4 & RE71) before making a decision. I'm still thinking the PS4S in the widths specified for the 18" wheels would be good. But if I can get similar performance from something less expensive, I'd like to to give that a shot. Most of my miles are on the street so I don't want a track tire.
