POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

At the present the FSI Certified Engine Installer and IMS Solution program has 35 partner shops Worldwide. Last week when we shared the flyer below we received 80 more applications to consider for selection. Of these we will probably select a maximum of 50 shops, and based on prior experience I'd say that less than 20 of those will make the cut. With the cost of fuel increasing it is important that we have more partner shops that can do engine installations, so fewer cars have to travel from across the country to reach our location. Currently the cost to ship a Porsche from coast to coast has doubled since this time last year. Certified Installers receive specific training after being inducted into the program. Certified Installers must also conform to a Code of Conduct, and annual evaluations. Certified Installers also receive quarterly training updates, and have direct access to specific resource materials to support their initiatives. If you work with a solid shop that has excellent administrative practices coupled to good communication, and a methodical approach to achieving mechanical goals, let them know this program exists and urge them to submit their info for an application. It takes a well- rounded shop with not only excellent technical ability, but also all the other essentials for business to achieve a Certification. Poor communicators, or those with poor business ethics, and morals need not apply. Applications will be accepted until the end of March. We will be reviewing the first week of April, and will form the first organizational meeting for those that make the initial cut at that time. Also- an FYI: I have notified those at Internet Brands that March will be our final month of forum sponsorship here on Rennlist. I seldom come here anymore, and can't justify spending the additional 300.00 per month it costs to make posts here. No drama caused this, and IB understands why we are leaving. I figured I may as well use my final two allowable posts for my 300.00 fee to go toward the Certified Installer program, hence this post.

Nothing ever stays the same were the words I heard from my dad thousands of times before he passed away. Im making lots of positive changes, and this is just one of them. Youll learn more over the next 14.25 months.

POST 4Original post

Also bummed to see you're going. I hope you select a shop near me in NE FL. I'll keep my eye on the list on the lnengineering site.

POST 5Original post

Jake, sorry to see you go. I ended up installing the solution myself, as the only certified shop in Portland OR, had never installed the solution, and I didn’t feel comfortable with them. Hopefully you will get another shop up to speed in the Portland area. At 72 years old, I didn’t know if I still had in me to do the job myself, but actually it was pretty straightforward.

POST 6Original post

Sorry to see you go. But Im glad to see youre expanding the Certified program. Looking for a shop to install the Solution through the certified program led me to something thats really rare. A knowledgeable and honest independent shop that really knows the M96. A shop where you actually feel good about leaving your car because you know the work is going to be done right. Having a great mechanic makes 996 ownership more enjoyable.

POST 7Original post

Jake, I will miss your guidance here. Good luck on your road...

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Expansion of the Certified Installer program helps everyone. We are now 5 years into the process of utilizing the Certified Installers to provide more local fitments of FSI engines, and the results have been 100% successful. The program is worked out so well that adding installers is as simple as training them. With the Certified Installers installing the IOMS Solution for 9 years at this point, we have also had 100% flawless results with all installations carried out by Certified Installers. As far as leaving here, I have been wanting to turn off forums and FB groups for a while. I have finally made the steps to do this, and simplify life.

POST 9Original post

I too am sorry to see you go! Although I'm new to the P-car world I have been around other automotive forums for 20 years. It's always a good sign when someone with your level of expertise is on the forum. And a tough loss when they leave. Thanks for everything you've contributed! EDIT: On the original topic, the Certified Installer in my area is a topnotch shop. If they're any indication of the quality of the others I would not hesitate to tell folks to use them with confidence.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 18043670

I have always tried to keep the Certified Installer program very clean. I can sense what shops "play the part" and have a good reputation on there outside, and differentiate them from the guys that have the true character of experience, and dedication. This is why I always have direct contact with the techs doing the work, as well as the administrators of the shop. I don't want a place with a huge building, a huge overhead, and leather furniture in the waiting area. Those shops have to crank out dollar figures just to pay the bills. The end result is generally hasty work that is haphazardly done, and they operate in constant chaos. This characterizes a ton of shops, and today there's more and more of these because that "experience" is what people seek out when looking for a Porsche shop. It should be quite the contrary. You go to a shop for the brain trust, and the business ethics/ morals. This is who I shoot to have as a Certified Installer. A shop that will take the time required to follow my protocol, and perform each step on the checklist with attention to detail. Anyway, the structure of RL calls for any professional/ business posters to be at least a basic site sponsor. This means I get to pay to post, and also offer up free information at the same time. I am not the first person in this industry that doesn't agree with this, since we believe that our contributions here help to build the quality of the forum experience, and that grows membership, thus creating more members that remain active. No one asked me for my opinion, so I'll leave it at that. This is not the only reason I am leaving forums and social media platforms as a whole. I work better when I'm doing my thing in the middle of no where and having nothing more than a radio. This world has gotten too fast for me, and since I recovered from Covid I am realizing this. Every 5 minutes there's a support ticket, email, a text message, or some form of instant message dinging in the background. I'm done with all of it.

POST 11Original post

Jake, Best wishes. You’re a true leader in the Porsche world. We are a better community because of your efforts. Enjoy your life, and thank you.

POST 12Original post

Having to pay to post in a public forum does suck, I understand your feelings. Hate to see you go, your presence will surely be missed. Glad to see you expanding the Certified Installer Program, it is profoundly needed. Specific Training on some of the procedures associated to M96/7 keeps common mistakes from happening and insures that a shop is not "learning" on your car !!! It is very important for the learning take place BEFORE the actual repair is attempted... I understand your need to get away from digital social media. As a old retired man I see it as a positive and a negative, and if you are looking for a big change, it wont give it to you. It will feed you the same content that it "thinks" you want...this is the biggest negative I have seen with the "predictive algorithms" of the social media news feed and advertising..

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 18044841

Thank you. I guess if I actually needed the business, and IF I received business from RL I would not feel it is unfair. If those two IFs were the case, 300 bucks a month would be cheap. I cancelled all other advertising 3 years ago, and before that I had stopped advertising in anything except Panorama 5 years prior. I learned that my best advertisement was my work, coupled to my word. If I did the best I could, and treated the people the best I could (even when they didn't rate it because they were jackasses) that I didn't need to do anything else. I learned that the people would find me, and when they find you, they are always the most organic business. Those people are the easiest to please, require less support, and are just plain good people. I generally hear "so and so told me to contact you" and that's the way I built this business.. Just like when I started out in a small, rural Georgia town working on old VWs, everyone knew where to find me. I've never had a sign, and in the old days I didn't even pay for a listing in the Yellow Pages.. Today I've never paid for Google Adwords, or any of that marketing BS, and we are still at the top of the listings without it. It's been a good run; now I just have to get the last commitments completed (on time, or early!) and leave just as positive as I started. The 18 engines I have to complete in 2023 as scheduled are all going to be really cool, and I'm going to have fun with them. After that I'll figure out what I'm going to do. Hell, I might start a pig farm, that way I can slaughter my problems, and still get paid. Pigs don't complain, and they are not hard to please... they just eat, drink, and sleep with an occasional poop in between.

POST 14Original post

Quotes source post: 18044986

Right, don't worry about the competition, your camshaft profiles/combinations alone will keep FSI m96/7 ahead for decades. As far as pig farming, ( which is probably just a tongue and cheek comment) consider chicken houses. My brother-in-law had a chicken house business with several automated chicken houses. The feeding was automatic, the egg gathering/cleaning/conveyor belt into air conditioned sorting room, automatic cage cleaning that the waist products were made into bio-fuel to run farm equipment. All the laying chickens were replaced every 6 months by contract with fresh hens ect..Very lucrative and easy to manage. The biggest disadvantage to it for me is I would not want to get used to the "smell".. It's all about the enjoyment of doing something. That's why I enlisted my Son and George to help with my Inventions. It can be a grind as you well know..

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 18045139

My farming initiative wouldnt be normal.. If I do it, Ill make it fun. The idea I have is really crazy. So crazy that I think it will work. Everything is up in the air. Im not making any decisions at all until the backlog is behind me, every engine has been delivered, and is through the warranty period, with every purchaser pleased. Reaching that goal is my singular focus until it is achieved.

POST 16Original post

Jake, thank you for all you’ve shared and contributed to our m96/97 platforms, your knowledge has been asset to us all, personally have learned a ton in the past decade about our vehicles. I do plan to share your above post with my shop in Northeast Ohio, they are a larger outfit, and work on a variety of air cooled and water cooled cars. They deal quite regularly with LN, and have an excellent reputation for doing things correctly and thoroughly. Very excited to see you are expanding the certified installer program. Thank you for your enjoyable discussion on Rennlist, and the Rennvision podcasts/videos you’ve shared with the community as well.

POST 17Original post

Jake, Just another thanks for all that you've contributed here and on other platforms. Your expertise and insights (and occasional beatdowns <grin>) will be missed but your reasons for leaving are certainly understandable. I wish you luck in your new endeavors! To stay mildly on topic here. I'm lucky enough to live within a 30 minute drive to the certified installer here in Texas who installed the solution for me but I feel the pain of those who aren't so lucky. It's quite a blessing to have access to a vetted shop who has not only a stellar reputation in the local Porsche community but has also passed the "Raby test" as well and I'm happy more owners will have access to such a resource in the near future. Again, good luck and thanks for everything!

This is the idea behind the expansion of the Certified Installer program. Increase the installer numbers, without sacrificing quality. The idea is a larger group will make more sense, as long as we keep the standards at the same level they have been at for the last decade. Additional training, and support that is only available to these installers greatly helps the initiative.

POST 19Original post

Ill be honest, im glad to see you go. I have read your posts for many years and you have always came across as pretentious, somewhat condescending, have acted as a gatekeeper of knowledge, and that no one can do things better than you. Granted, by all accounts you are a mechanical genius, but your attitude sure could use some work. You may be an absolute gem of a person in real life, but your posts make you appear n arcissistic. Enjoy your pigs.

I have some meetings next week that look favorable for me to be able to do all the things I love with regard to this business, and abandon all the things I hate. Basically that just means nothing really changes, except all my time is spent in the shop; which I will love. The addition of the Certified Installers in higher numbers will really play a crucial part in that.. So you won't have to worry about reading my narcissism any further :-)

I have had the pleasure of knowing Jake for about 20 years now . First as just a casual friend , then I became a customer and then a PT employee . In all the years I have known him he has always been a straight talker no BS . That approach rubs some people the wrong way and believe me Jake doesn't lose any sleep over it 😁. He is truly a gifted mad scientist when it comes to mechanical issues . He approaches every task/problem with the same methodology and that creates excellent and repeatable results . Not many like him out there . I am glad I can call him a friend .

Let’s forget about innovations and advice about keeping our M96 engines running from the person who has the most experience working on them. What’s really important is our feelings. I would give up my IMS Solution to save RngTrtl’s mangina from being hurt. Back in the 90s I had my Ducati’s serviced by a small shop near me called Fast by Ferracci. You might have heard of them Eraldo Ferracci, like Jake , didn’t suffer fools gladly.

I don't know Jake, I have never met him or spoken to him. Based on the content he provides through this forum or through his videos, clearly he is knowledgeable. I believe him to blunt - but so am I. this does not bother me. Prefer that over being a sleezy salesperson. I also can not fathom him doing these videos, regardless of the utube algorithms, to generate revenue. Do they help to make dollars? Sure. If it was just about making money, his time would be better spent doing an additional rebuild. I'm sure that would generate more money. BTW, I had the solution installed, a couple days after purchase. I used a former certified installer. Not sure why that person stopped being certified but I was satisfied with the work. This was in 2018 at 45K miles.

POST 29 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 18048442

Its ok.. Really. At least he had the intestinal fortitude to state how he feels about me. Most people won't do this. He really isn't wrong. I'm not a very nice person, and I sometimes tell people that when I meet them. On some occasions I started my hands- on classes off with a statement similar to that. People didn't come here for any reason other to learn, but after 4 days I think they realized that I wasn't as bad as they thought. They just wanted to learn, and I wanted to teach, and do so directly. They always learned, and always left happy. After our bonfire on Friday nights they understood who I am, and probably understood why I was so direct. I am confident to a fault, and people who don't share my personality traits will take this exactly the way that he did. Those that do share my traits think nothing of it, and respect it. At the end of the day, spending so much time interfacing with people is what made me want the changes that are upcoming. Every day has been a fight for me for the past 23 years. Fights with copycats, competitors and at times fights with customers (very rarely, maybe once every 3 years). The only fights that I like these days are the fights with physics, since they are the only ones that can be proudly won. The fights that include humans have no winner, and my faith says I shouldn't engage in them.

Some people just can't handle the truth and when faced with someone better, smarter, faster they resort to personal attacks and dislike. NYPOWR4 is right...

Thanks for that. Hats off to you and much respect for what you have done for the community. We're actually are quite similar, I call it how I see it and dont really care about what others think upon hearing it, hence why I dont have any worries about sharing my thoughts here, the same as you have done. Mechanically I have the upmost respect for you and what you have accomplished and am thankful for the technical contributions you have made.

Guys, I am extremely happy with the position that I'm in, as well as what the future holds. Let's keep positive energy going, and set aside differences. If things go as it appears they will, I will be able to continue to offer the engines that we've proven in a better way the ever. It will be a lot different, and fewer will be produced, however the experience will be a lot less drawn out, and complicated. The best part is I won't have to be any part of the sales and support team, and that means I'll end up doing a lot more development behind the curtain. The current Certified Installers are ecstatic about this, and the new guys that have just signed on, and have begun their journey to be Certified are also very happy to see all the things that are on the table. So.. Let's keep it positive, even when there's what we feel is some negativity posted.

Without going into details, Jake & Charles Navarro both went above and beyond anything any 911 owner on this forum would believe possible to help me out of a unique situation. I will be indebted to both of them forever and will defend their integrity and professionalism against all who seek to besmirch them. If everyone in business had their integrity the world would be a better place.
