Does anyone know why my alarm continued to sound when the battery was disconnected (I might have assumed it would go off like this, until I read the instructions which recommended I disconnect the battery)...?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have recently had to replace the window regulator in my driver's side door. The instructions that I followed in removing the door panel, etc., recommended disconnecting the -ve terminal on the battery. I did this, but my alarm started to sound. I let it sound for a while, and it would stop for short periods before resuming to souund. Therefore, I thought s*d this, reconnected the terminal and proceeded to carry out the work, carefully (& successfully) disconnecting / reconnecting the airbag in the door. Does anyone know why my alarm continued to sound when the battery was disconnected (I might have assumed it would go off like this, until I read the instructions which recommended I disconnect the battery)...?

POST 2Original post

There is a backup battery in the alarm siren. If you switch the ignition on before disconnecting the battery it stops the alarm going off.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ah, right. I bet you're also going to tell me it's stated in the owners handbook (aka "RTFM")! Thanks Richard. [ ][ ]

No, I don't think it is, but it does mention it here: http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/fb.asp?m=231462 [ ][ ][ ]
