Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

3 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1Original post

I completed my last DE, and the car was perfect. The 2 hour drive home was perfect. A couple of days after the event, I went for a drive. Shifting between 1st and 2nd was much tougher, almost viscous. 2nd to 3rd was better. The other gears were normal. Sometimes going from 2nd to 1st, it did not want to go into gear. Being very careful, the car would go precisely into gear. Get a little sloppy, and it was tough to make the shift. I'm figuring something is wrong and I will be heading to the dealership. Here is where it gets interesting. As the drive progressed, it got better to the point where the shifts would fall within normal effort, although I know it was still off. I went on another drive a couple of days later, and it continued to get better. I'm kind of screwed at this point because a dealer would simply say everything was fine. A couple of drives later, and everthing is just about back to normal. What happened? Is everything ok?

POST 2Original post

Based upon many inputs here (and not on my expertise) the two possibilities are loose pressure plate bolts or malfunctioning clutch hydraulics. (You could do a search, as some will suggest, but the rest of your life might be long enough to wade through what you would find). And since the bolts are unlikely to retighten themselves, probably some simple work by your dealer on the hydraulics will fix it. Please let us know what happens.

POST 3Original post

i had a similar issue after a track day in Phoenix at PIR. The dealer ended up replacing the pressure plate, etc under warranty. I have heard of others having a similar problem. Hope this helps.

Were you at PIR March 24? A black Cayman S? If so, I was the Cobalt Blue on track with you! Greg

Just a suggestion but you might call your service advisor and explain to him everything you just mentioned here in detail. Let him know you are concerned about your pressure plate and hydraulics but you don't think the problem will be able to be replicated since after much driving it seems to have worked back to normal. He might be able to give you some insight or might just tell you to come in ant they will look at your clutch. Good luck and let us know what happens.

I got my car inspected for my next DE in a week and half, and I asked the mechanic if he felt the shifting was off. He said it felt too hard to him. With the car on the lift, he looked at the cable linkage on the engine and immediately spotted that it was loose. He pushed it into place and zip-tied it. Wow. Back to normal shifting. I drove it over and dropped it off at the Porsche dealer for the "official" fix. The service manager says that these can pop out. I had not heard that before. The apparent fix is to simply pop it back in place.
