Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

My battery went flat beyond repair whilst I changed my engine mounts and fitted the polybush insert to the transmission mount.
Leading evidence: 'Install polybush insert' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check misfire counters in the dme live data' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

change engine mounts (air filter / MAF removed for access, might have bumped a vacuum hose, connector?) I also sprayed underside area in alcohol to clean the oil spill from old engine mounts… exhaust sensors?

Old battery didn’t improve on the charger/repair mode.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi folks,
Car was running perfectly before I did some work on it for 1 week, and today the battery was flat at 10volts (frunk light probably). I trickle charged it for 12 hours, and it was still 10v.
When jump started, the alternator provides 14v but after 45mins and 20miles the battery is still 10v. I suspect the battery has randomly broken… no idea why/how?
To make matters worse when driving it’s now missing a cylinder… could a knackered battery cause rough running? I bloody hope so. I will buy a new battery in the morning (reluctantly throwing money at the problem)
I will try my chargers 12v repair mode overnight.
Work completed: (just in case I touched something)
change engine mounts (air filter / MAF removed for access, might have bumped a vacuum hose, connector?) I also sprayed underside area in alcohol to clean the oil spill from old engine mounts… exhaust sensors?
Transmission inserts (can’t see this being the cause… really don’t think the misfire is just increased NVH!)
Previous maintenance: new coils, spark plugs 4 years old but only 10k miles
Any ideas? Why would a battery suddenly break? Could a dead battery cause a misfire? Could a jump start from engine bay damage anything?
Thanks, as always
Have you a scantool? If so, you can investigate the misfire.
If the misfire is indeed one cylinder, and it's regular, a code should pop in the DME telling you which exact cylinder.
If no code has popped check the misfire counters in the DME live data.
However, you disturbed some of the maf and inlet hoses. It's possible that you introduced an air leak behind the maf.
At tickover this could be a nasty misfire on all cylinders. At revs and load, less so.
Thanks for the reply, I’ll have another prod about at the air hoses. I didn’t get any codes using a cheap OBD2 scanner earlier.
I ordered another 3x scanners from Amazon as I’m not sure any/all of them will work and I’ll see if there are any codes.
Issue resolved. My battery went flat beyond repair whilst I changed my engine mounts and fitted the polybush insert to the transmission mount.
Having now removed the transmission insert… I can confirm that was the cause of the severe increase in NVH I thought was a bad misfire.
