Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The previous owner had also installed the harder EPS tuning arms, which I've also changed, which although have taken some vibration out the front, hasn't cured the squeak...

It sounds lit'sa chirp or creaky bed spring coming from the front left damper area, but has recently had a full M030 refresh before I bought the car, including top mounts and bump stops, and I have personally changed the LCA, tuning fork, ARB bushes and drop links.

Also check the rubber seal round the headlight assembly (between that and the wing) is sealed.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello everyone - first of all, hello!
A couple of months ago I traded up my much loved 986 S, for a 2003 996.2 C2, in fetching Lago Green. Apart from a misfire which was rectified by the dealer, its been all i hoped for, except for a very annoying squeak from the front left damper area in which I'm running out of talent and patience to fix!
It sounds lit'sa chirp or creaky bed spring coming from the front left damper area, but has recently had a full M030 refresh before I bought the car, including top mounts and bump stops, and I have personally changed the LCA, tuning fork, ARB bushes and drop links. Everything has been relubed in an effort to find the noise, but no luck so far!
The car will squeak over any undulating ground and short bumps, and CANT be replicated by bouncing the front of the car, or with the wheel off, forcing the damper to rapidly compress and decompress with a jack. I've violently wiggled everything under there, and can't replicate the sound AT ALL, but as soon as I drive, guaranteed squeaking two minutes in.
I'm absolutely stumped, and wondering if anybody has any ideas?
Otherwise, I have a couple of minor improvements planned (M030 is OK, but I loved the Koni SA setup I had on the Boxster etc), and a few interior touch ups on the Graphite Grey after 21 years so I look forward to starting a progress thread soon!
Thanks!
That was quick!
They are about 3 weeks old! I replaced them first thinking they were the obvious culprit, but didn't make any difference to the squeak.
The previous owner had also installed the harder EPS tuning arms, which I've also changed, which although have taken some vibration out the front, hasn't cured the squeak...
DeMort who used to be a regular contributor on the forum (and is a tech at precision Porsche) recommended using something called mechanical ears. You can get them with Bluetooth capability
It might be worth seeing if a passenger can give you a second opinion while you go for a drive, or maybe ask someone else to drive while you ride shotgun to try and locate it. If you look beyond the suspension, then I've read of others reporting the dash airbag can squeak as it rubs, or the windscreen can cause some noises.
Well done. That bolt is an adjustable height fitting and alters the beam of the headlight. Worth checking your headlight now. There's another adjuster inside the headlight unit that can be used to bring it back in to line.
So, no luck..... but I did find that one of the corners of the tray assembly wasn't screwed in at all! All tight now, but squeak still persists.
The hunt continues....
Check everything that has rubber sandwiched between it. Also check the rubber seal round the headlight assembly (between that and the wing) is sealed. Also squeaks can sometimes be cured by just dowsing everything in sight with WD40.......but don't get it on your pads and discs.
So as an update, I had the front bumper and wheel linings out to fix a coolant leak (loose jubilee clip), as well as both the headlights for a refurb and still couldn't find anything that might have been squeaking!
Throwing the nuclear option at it (and something I had already planned to do anyway).... I've just ordered H&R Street coilovers (got for a steal of £1200 from autodoc), new Lemforder top mounts and bearings and new tie rods.
If it still squeaks, I'll have to hire pest control.
