Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
To me it makes sense to spend a couple of hundred dollars on the extensions first, before you spend a couple of thousand on replacing an exhaust system.

Most 996 owners have no idea what an extension is until they run into a similar situation.

Besides, you will need the extensions regardless what brand you use for free flowing cats unless you go back to OE.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey guys,
any recommendation on cats that will pass smog in Nevada?
I started with TopGear 200 cell sport cats, valved exhaust, new O2 sensors with no luck.
Thanks guys!
The Fabspeed are crazy expensive for what they are. I found some on Amazon that are apparently no longer available.
A search of eBay "o2 90 spacer" shows some options that might be worth trying.
Its a common issue that hits us all when moving to aftermarket cats. Some shops know to use them, some shops don't when they put on an exhaust. Most 996 owners have no idea what an extension is until they run into a similar situation. To me it makes sense to spend a couple of hundred dollars on the extensions first, before you spend a couple of thousand on replacing an exhaust system. Besides, you will need the extensions regardless what brand you use for free flowing cats unless you go back to OE. Its always a good exercise to crawl under your engine to take a look to make sure you don't already have extensions.

Plenty of other places to go for the extensions. I would stick with proven products and companies. no sense in doing it twice.
Lastly, contact your manufacturer and see what they recommend.
I drilled out some spark plug non-foulers to use as O2 spacers. I'll let you know if its done the trick in a few months.

I have to agree with others, if you don't have tailpipe testing that you are failing, then start with spacers. And you don't need anything expensive or fancy like the Fabspeed ones. As Yaz mentioned all you really need is any piece of pipe with the right threads. I would personally go for 90s over straights, as I think they tend to work better. You should be able to do this for less than $50 if you shop around a little.
Thank you all so much for all of the information. O2 extensions is most def the route to go before I venture into getting new cats. Really appreciate all of the insight.
Hey There Clevy,
Give me a ring at 4848836197 if you have some time, I'm happy to speak with you in depth about the various options. We have high flow cats which I'm sure you've probably seen based off the feedback from the others in the thread. However, we also have a lot of seat time with O2 spacers/extensions and would be happy to point you down a path of best results as there are a lot out there to choose from.
Also, thanks to all in the thread for the kind words and recommendations. We appreciate the support and being a part of the RL community
Regards,
John Gaydos
