Thanks, yes just checked with the vendor and it is balancing.
Leading evidence: 'Check with the vendor and it is balancing' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check with the vendor and it is balancing' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. Agree with Alex and on his advice fitted stainless steel disc retaining bolts; stripped the brakes over the winter and so much easier to remove and no worries about them siezing or rusting etc

For what its worth I changed my bolts when I did my brake refurb this winter.
Use few times and the carrier thread was now shagged

First time I took them off my 996 they had obviously been used a few times and the carrier thread was now shagged.

Advice generally seems to be replace the calliper mounting bolts, why?

Alex suggested replacing the disk mounting screws with stainless Allen key models and I will as they are a bit chewed up but they are only to locate the disk so they don't need to be too tight, after all the wheel bolts really hold the disk in place.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just renewing the front disks and pads, the Brembo pads are at 25k miles, I'm quite light on the brakes and this does seem rather low, my much heavier Skoda superb is at 60k on original front pads.
Advice generally seems to be replace the calliper mounting bolts, why? They are at 85Nm and into ally so I can't imagine they are too stressed, do they have a locking treatment?. Mine had been installed with ally grease, that would affect the torque.

One of the new disks (Pagid) will have to go back today, a machining error has chewed the out edge of the rotor and it might affect the balance. Unless, of course, that's how they balance them????
Show us a pic of the disc but it does indeed sound like its where they balance them
Question about brake discs
I bought a set of brake discs and I thought they was faulty due to them having a machine mark but it turns out they are balancing marks but should I be worried that on one disc the balance mark is about 20mm then on the other disc the length of the balance mark is about 90mm. I've also noticed...

Thanks, yes just checked with the vendor and it is balancing. Not seen it before, I guess most of my cars had much lighter disks and maybe they didn't balance them.
The issue with the disc bolts are they are mild steel going in to mild steel and a Phillips head. Main reason I put the Stainless ones on are because they are an Allen head and you can apply much more torque removing them with an Allen key than a screw driver. They only cost pennies from your local screwfix so it seems a no brainer. On every car I've owned, about 70-80% of the time I've had aggro trying to remove the steel Phillips head ones.

Pagid are now owned by Eurocarparts and have become a bit of a budget option, I bought some several years ago and they warped very quickly under normal breaking use. Eurocarparts refused all responsibility and offered zero compensation.
Last year I bought new Brembo front discs for my Turbo , took it to Anglesey for the PC track day and after a couple of laps they were warped which completely ruined the day to be honest, vibration under braking was horrendous.
Big surprise to the well known parts place we all buy from (and me ) but they did eventually refund me after I had to pay to send them back to them and a long wait for them to be inspected , which I totally understand.
The originals ones were just a bit corroded on the inside so I cleaned them up with an orbital sander and put them back on.
There is loads of discussion on this, Porsche say to use new bolts every time. Not saying that is necessary, but if they have been over torqued at all you don't want to keep using them and over torquing them or rather stretching the thread on the aluminium carrier for the sake of a few quid.
First time I took them off my 996 they had obviously been used a few times and the carrier thread was now shagged. New carriers needed. Great!
For what its worth I changed my bolts when I did my brake refurb this winter. As gizlaroc says - mine had also been reused based on condition. So thought I would start fresh. Will I change them next time I pull them out - probably not... I also followed Alex's advise with the disc retaining bolts. Cheap and great for future ease of removal.
