Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

These changes will move the torque band left or right.
Leading evidence: 'Replace will move the torque band left or right' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace will move the torque band left or right' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Im running the Carrera S 3.8 airbox highly recommended and the throttle had been bored, that I am not 100 percent sure if it is fvd or a custom job.

Do a little Google fu and you’ll learn a plenum does little for nearly all 996 engine and exhaust set ups.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all, new to the forum. Have a 2001 996 and wondering if adding a plenum makes any sense. IDP projects +25 hp and 15 lb ft of torque. Has anyone here done this and what was your experience.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Welcome! Post pics of your ride on the photo thread or it didn’t happen. All good fun here on RL. Do a little Google fu and you’ll learn a plenum does little for nearly all 996 engine and exhaust set ups. No NA engine, ever!, has gained 15 lb ft from a plenum. For a stock 3.4 a plenum alone is more likely to rob you of low rpm torque (below ~4k). Simple physics. The IPD plenum looks great though.
I believe a generic rule of thumb for an M96 engine is 200 cell cats, better flowing headers and mufflers, an ECU tune and plenum will gain you somewhere in the 15-20 hp range. These changes will move the torque band left or right. That being said, all those mods will make beautiful music when they all work well together. But a Gundo or Fister muffler will get you great sound for only a modest cost.
Spend your performance $$$ on suspension improvements. That’s your best bet. Proper alignment, ride height, great rubber and a stiffer rear sway will pay immediate dividends.
Tricky topic.
Below is an interesting video from a well followed shop (Motive) on Youtube that measured various intake products on a 3.6 997. No gains for Plenum/TB.

As a different view from the echo chamber that becomes RL sometimes I will interject my 2 cents. If you search and search and search and search all over the 996 forums from Europe and the US you will find conflicting data. Some says Plenum good, some say Plenum bad......however I can't ever find anyone who does very thorough before and after progression testing of plenum plus 200 cell x pipe plus sport mufflers plus headers....in that order. What I can tell you is what was said above, if you have the 200 Cell Xpipe, plus plenum, plus sport mufflers you will see a gain. How much? Between 20-100hp? No clue.......so here is my take. Do what you want and if your butt dyno says it feels good and it sounds good and it puts a smile on your face then great! Money well spent. Just don't look for validation on the interweb for it. All you will find is opinions.
The video from PCA that I posted shows gains in the midrange.
Is it worth the money?
Its cheaper than a lot of things that add weight and no performance.
Maybe it only works on a 3.4 without any mods. Dunno.
I have a 3.6 and dynoed it. Doesn't add any performance, makes the powerband more peaky, but it looks good and sounds awesome. The only way you will get 15-25 Hp with a plenum is on a Turbo.
Absolutely, it's up to the owner of every car, but if an OP asks for thoughts, I'll try to save them some headaches, disappointment and money.
That's the beauty of RL.
As we all know , in the simplest terms an engine is an air pump . More air in/out = performance gains . But obviously it's not that simple . Just bolting on one or two aftermarket items generally won't get you there .
Everything from the air box/throttle body/manifold/heads and valves/exhaust have to flow better . Then consider cams/compression/timing/injectors etc etc you get the picture . The engine is a system of parts , and those parts all have to work together to be better than the factory .
so here it goes. Almost everybody told me the same the plenum should be the last thing to do. I just did a Apr tune and I am extremely satisfied. Now my car has the fabspeed max flow exhaust, Tex squirrel 🐿 sold me his fab speed catless x pipes, and I have soul headers. Im running the Carrera S 3.8 airbox highly recommended and the throttle had been bored, that I am not 100 percent sure if it is fvd or a custom job. The apr tune is $499 plus install I negotiated mine and I got it done for $625 total. Highly recommend on a 3.4 torque down low you can feel it as soon as you drive it.
