Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

My 2001 996 C2 has been sitting for 6 months. I have 2 questions... Is my gas still good? and is it too late to add stabil the gas stabilizer?

POST 2Original post

Its fine, run out half the tank and then refill with fresh. No need to add anything.

Gasoline can hold up six months. Now, 5 years that's a different story.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys. I should have added "Stabil" when I put the car away for the Chicago winter.

POST 5Original post

Stabil will help keep gasoline from going bad, but won't bring it back to being good. I had 30 gallons of stored gasoline go bad on me because I forgot to add Stabil before storing it. 1 year old non-treated gasoline caused me some problems during the Texas Freeze/power outage in 2021. My old generator is finally being repaired now so I can give it away. New generator is natural gas/propane...no more storing gasoline for me...except for maybe my vehicles. You have no idea how hard it is to get rid of 30 gallons of bad gasoline!

I just spent 7 days without driving mine and I have driven it three out of the last 4 days. The rush, the adrenaline the sound its magic for me.

POST 7Original post

Tex is exactly right, Stabil is great if you put it in before storage, but is useless afterwards. 6 months should be no problem, though. Honestly, I have had cars sit for over a year and the only issue I have ever had is with ethanol and carburetors. I wouldn't run the car hard until there is fresh gas in it though.

Added 5 gallons to my friends E150 Econoline van each fill up. It took almost a year for him to burn it all.

I was at my cardiologist today and in the waiting room there is a picture of Luis with the caption: “Avoid this man at all costs! Do not be tempted by his pictures!!“ Unfortunately at this time I can’t drive much(stupid Cataracts!) and I can’t get my wife to drive me to Luis’s house for a meal. I have to just enjoy the pictures like y’all.

POST 13Original post

I have one thing to add: if the tank was 1/4 full or less when you left it parked for those 6 months, you could have a significant amount of water in the fuel, as a mostly empty tank will have way more room for condensation during the day/night temperature cycles. Though if that is the case; just topping it off with new fuel will dry it out with all the ethanol which is in fuel now.
