Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hi Guys, After a long stretch with an M6 on the freeway, my car's CEL is on. I figure it's just the Milltek headers with race cat that I have. So I went and purchased an OBDII code reader to diagnose it. Could someone point out where the ECU is on our cayman ? Also do you have any special instructions/precautionary advise for me in doing this? Thanks guys

POST 2Original post

The ECU is in the rear, but that isn't where you patch in the OBDII reader, that is under the dash on a US car the left side (drivers side) just above the fuse box is a purple plastic piece that your reader will plug into.

POST 6Original post

So the ECU is in the engine compartment or...?

POST 7Original post

What the OBDII reader or the M6? Not sure I follow. There is NOTHING wrong with getting an OBDII reader or one that can clear codes and using it, you can't harm your car and it is allowed by federal law. You can't change any parameters you simply read codes and for ones you are allowed to clear you can clear them, simple as that. Good for making the CEL go away.
