Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Maybe also check the connection to your subwoofer, since for some reason, disconnecting/reconnecting that always pushes my radio to "protect".

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I pulled the fuse, locked my doors, and returned the fuse after 20 minutes and it didn't fix the problem.
05 Boxster S. CDR-24 No Radio Code?
***********
Radio says "Porsche, Protect"
Does not ask for a code.
I press and hold "TP" and nothing happens.
I have the serial number of the radio.
***********
I picked up a 2005 Boxster S from a used car dealership.
I asked them to have the radio working before I picked up the car, but apparently they didn't do it.
1. I was wondering if there's a way around going to the dealership?
2. How much does it usually cost to have the dealership activate/put in the code?
3. What can trigger the "protect" mode?
D/C'ing the battery, Discharging the battery, what else?
Thank You!
I am not sure if there is a code that needs to be entered for these radios, unlike other manufacturers. I once received this message when removing the radio to install an
iPod
hookup, but the message went away shortly after reconnecting the radio. You could try the obvious of disconnecting the
battery
first for a few minutes and then reconnecting.
Is there any aftermarket
iPod
connection or other devices (fm modulator?) hooked up to the radio. Maybe somebody was doing something with the radio and a connector or something else is loose. Removing the radio isn't very difficult and doesn't take too long. Check out the articles section for info on how to remove it. Maybe you will find a loose connector.
There's no code for this 05 CDR-24. I'm not sure how they unlock it.
The
Porsche
mechanic said it would take about an hour and cost $145 to have my radio up and running.
I will try to d/c the
battery
for a bit and see what happens. I don't think there are any aftermarket devices connected.
I'll find out how to remove the radio and get the serial.
Would pulling the fuse for the radio give the same effect as d/c'ing the
battery
?
I pulled the fuse, locked my doors, and returned the fuse after 20 minutes and it didn't fix the problem.
It probably would, but I can't say for sure. If you pull the fuse, and the radio won't turn on or do anything, then I would say yes. Might as well try disconnecting the
battery
anyway, and
next
I would pull the radio out just to make sure it isn't something simple such as a loose connector before you spend a bunch of money at the dealer.

Not sure if this helps but the last time I had service done at my dealership my radio would not operate...at all. He stated that specific to the
CDR24
that sometimes diagnostic queries will wipe the codes needed for operation. He re-hooked up his device and within a minute made the radio work properly again.
I just read from one link that CDR-24s can't use a radio code and that:

Thanks. I wouldn't be able to do that.
Hey there!!!
I'm facing the same problem here! Did you solve yours??
I was in the dealer yesterday, they told me that after 2005 all
porsche
radios are pre-programmed and removing the fuse, jumpstarting or other power failure will not affect the radio...they connected to diognosis and couldn't find an error either, everything looks good, amplifier, connections, software... They couldn't solve it in the
porsche
dealer and advised me to visit the Blaupunkt official dealer, apparently they're good with this kind of stuff. Will go today and see.
Please let me know if you solved yours, would like to get my music back!
Hey man! Please let me know if that works out! I've been driving almost a year without a radio. I was looking at getting a
Pioneer HU
instead but haven't had the time.
It's so odd that they have no solution! My radio actually turns on every week or two when I start the car and plays until I turn off the car. It's the best couple of minutes ever.
Could there be something wrong with your keys? I believe our keys have an RFID chip inside. Yesterday, I pulled to engine cover of my 2005
Boxster
and have to remove the subwoofer in the process. After reassembly, when I turned my radio on, it said "Protect" as yours does, and it was not until I inserted my key and turned "on" that the radio came out of protect mode. So there is some syncing between key, security system on the car, and tehe radio. Clearly, the security system is letting you start your car so it must be accepting your RFID chip, but wonder if your car ever got re-keyed and maybe the code did not get updated in the radio?
Maybe also check the connection to your subwoofer, since for some reason, disconnecting/reconnecting that always pushes my radio to "protect". It will be on the underside at the far right side (passenger side).
Hmm, the key idea could be a possibility but I'd have no idea how to check. I don't think it's been re-keyed.
I'll check the subwoofer connection.
I like to know why it starts to work once in a blue moon. If it were working and I turned the power off then on again, it goes back into "protect".
I have gone twice and bought a second radio. I don't want to dump anymore cash if they're not going to be able to fix it.
Problem solved, my unit is now working :hilarious:

Glad to hear it mate, good for you!
I still have the problem, they tried everything including opening the motherboard. Radio is completely fine, the moment we connect the cable, it goes -portect- again! It looks like a lot of ppl suffered from this thing, will be happy if you share what to do...
Having issue with 2001
boxster
. Windows drop half an inch and go bacup when opening both driver and passenger door but center console power switches won't open windows. I have Cindy's switches are good. Checked fuses, etc.. Also central looking and alarm not working. Thoughts anyone?
