On your vmax comments I agree 100%, the problem is Craig wants to give others the chance to hit 200mph which means 1.6 miles for most - that video knocking round of you braking from 2XXmph in the middle of a car park is just barking mad, has to change really

Clearly you need to pick a clean line through the bottom bend, but regardless how much torque, you need a solid 700hp to brake 200 mph on a normal day with no big tail wind and functional timing gear.

Of course that is dependent on weather - we ran 1.45 bar at vmax for the record, anything more and it was spinning the rears on max shift from 4th to 5th at 170mph plus.

Hiya, looks like I'm finally going to be able to buy my favourite affordable super car - a 996 GT2. I could do with some help though. There precious few GT2s for sale at the moment and none really fit the bill. I'd rather have a Mk2 than a Mk1 and I'd rather have a clubby than a comfy. That said i guess it's all about condition really? I've owned a 996TT before (which I tweaked) and I know that a fully stamped service book is no guarantee of condition. Coolers leak, suspension links wear like mad, timing chains, gearboxes, alternators, fuel pumps..all good expensive stuff
My ideal car would be one with extremely diligently sorted suspension and some mild pro engine mods (Ruf or Fearnsport).
There is a 996 GT2 evo at Specialist Cars but I don't like the Gemballa wing at all and I am not mad keen on the rims either. These might seem like niggles but that could easily add up to £4k in changes - and that's before I take it to Chris at CG...that said it has a rebuilt engine and Specialist Cars have a pretty rock solid reputation...
What about 'The Stallion'??? they have a Mk GT2 for sale and seems to have sold a lot of GT2s over the years - I've never heard of them though.
I have read everything I can find about these cars but it's never enough to feel educated. Any Ideas?
There is only one in the UK with full factory RUF conversion now, not going up for sale anytime soon. Fernsport have done a couple nicely but again tend to be ones that don't show up on the market often.
I've actually seen the so called GT2RS at malton at a show many moons ago , my opinion is you would be far more better off buying originality rather than something it will never be ( a sticker ) , you are right it would be 5k to make it right but why not be patient and buy a " proper " car .... I personally think it's overpriced too ... Best of luck in your quest to fine a Perfect GT2 .
To be fair the Malton GT2 RS(s) are a bit more than a badge, and when they were built there was no sign of a genuine GT2 RS.
Having sat behind one of these at some speed when it has been exercised, they are damned quick; there was a subtle shake of the tail pipes, a blast of noise and then it was like watching the star ship enterprise go to warp 9.

Mine was used for this months GT Porsche article, I had it up for sale tail end of last year had a few enquires but nothing worked out so still have it and decided to hold on to it, they are very special cars and finding a good straight one is proving to be more difficult.
Enjoy the search, most of the cars can be traced back through members on here.

I very much doubt mapping is by RS Tuning, they only sell complete packages, however SCoM does have one car with an RS Tuning engine in stock

Slippydiff said:
I'm only repeating what Mark or John told a potential customer two or three years ago when he enquired about the car.
Someone got mixed up (I reckon) - trivial to many but there is a big difference between an RS Tuning package and eg a DMS offering (to those who are into these sorts of things
)
Wow - I can't believe how helpful y'all have been. Regarding these Ruf Nardos please don't tease a girl. How can I be happy with anything else now that I know these things exist.
Regarding the SCoM car - apparently it has a high performance exhaust, hybrid turbos and a DMS remap. it's putting out (apparently) somewhere north of 500 hp. Now apparently there was a much nuttier car with more like 650 hp - perhaps this is the RS tuning car that you speak of.
I am a mega fuss pot on a car being dead-right and any car I by would need to be. I really want to get the springs and dampers sorted out. Ideally I would like to have OE-a-job a possible, so I guess this might the ruf incarnation of the PSS10 kit.
tx
The yellow CS with the RUF package has the RUF turned suspension, brake kit, gearbox kit, mag 19" wheels as well as the full Nardo kit built up from a completely new block. Last time it was on the rollers was making 632bhp and that is without being able to get much air through the intercoolers as well as delivering a very very smooth power curve. Handling is amazing on it with that setup, no understeer at all and when the back does come round its very progressive, sold me totally on how complete a package RUF really do offer. It made 206mph at Vmax last time it ran there so isn't a slow car!
On resale I think its one of the only companies that does add value to the resale of the car, not what they charge (which is very very high) but wouldn't see it as a negative in terms of taking away originality.
That sound awesome. What did they do to the chassis. Is this the Ruf version of the Bilstein PSS10 with their own front ARB? Please rear toe links?
That's got to be a 50k Euro engine I guess !

A call to SCOM would probably be usefull. John may have the original rear deck / spoiler and original wheels in the workshop. Or Richy Sykes, the original owner may have them somewhere.
I remember at the old SCOM trackdays at Croft, Richy used to drive the car there on the BBS wheels, then have the standard wheels fitted at the track, shod with track rubber.
It was / is an absolute beast though. And your right, there was another car built by SCOM, a black one which had additional mods. Plus a 996 Turbo which wasn't far behind performance wise.

Yes the RUF tuned version of the PSS10 with their anti roll bars. They use a lot of the Porsche motorsport bits on the links and gearbox just helpfully with the part numbers changed so you can't work out exactly what they have used. Seems they raid the motorsport division for the basis of most of the upgrades and then tweak them.
The interesting thing talking to the factory is that RUF and their guarantee and TUV approval means the engines are tested to destruction and built do flat out runs everyday all day as they have German customers pounding up and down autobahns everyday. To get that sort of power with the reliability is how they justify their prices.
Have come across lots of tuned turbos and some GT2's that claim massive power but never seen one that runs side by side with the RUF's on a regular basis, you just have to look at the VMax hall of fame to see how many RUF cars there are in there. To me the GT2 is the perfect base car for them, no need for body kits etc and as standard Porsche were cautious on setup and power to some extent.
It's now my best mates car but that's the one, only sold it to him as I'm out the country a crazy amount at the moment but he's only allowed to sell it back to me if he does ever sell it.

Are these the ones you mean?
(from a 'Porsche & 911' magazine feature)
Yes, that's the black one. Although I think it had more work done after one of its magazine features.
The Turbo I was referring wasn't the green one. It was a slightly more subtle plain old silver one. The Turbo is still owned by the same guy now, pretty much from new.

I have a lightly modified GT2 with a carefully selected PSS9 kit and springs. Cup type rear links are a must really. I will be fitting a 3 way Exe-Tc damper spring set up over the next few weeks and will be interested to see how that works. The car as is works very well. very very quick with sweet predictable handling, even if the ride is still a little on the firm side. Mid range grunt is immense for a road car.... I'd recommend them, keep original if you're investing, or remap and chassis tune if you want to enjoy it.
Jon.
So this silver 04 car at Caraholics - it's been on the market for a while and has Ruf badges on it.
Does anyone know...
is it a real Mk2 or a late Mk1
Is it a real clubsport
What Ruf stuff does it have?
Sounds like if i have the Ruf chassis kit and mild Ruf performance upgrade (what do they charge for the 500-520 ps kit? for a GT2?), then I won't hurt the resale at all.

Unless that being WHP, I doubt it broke 200 mph on Brunts... To hit 206 gps, the car is missing 100-125 bhp and that's on a good day with decent ambient temp and zero wind.
911 Viking, everyone has seen how fast your car is and very impressive it is too.Type in RUF 996 GT2 Club Sport into Google and read what was said when the car was at Vmax.It is a very special car, what is even more amazing is how little boost in runs!!!!!!

I'm guessing comfort is correct (or non-Clubsport ro be anal), as if it was a genuine MK2 Clubsport, I think it would have had a carbon rear wing and mirrors?

Both were optional irrespective of spec as I understood it.
Carbon parts for a Mk2 Clubsport were a no-cost option so every Clubsport Mk2 car has them. There was a fee to add on the carbon parts to Comfort models and so were not added very often.

The Yellow car used to belong to an old PH regular Drhildr. The car did do 206 at Vmax Adrenaline in 2009. Check out the Vmax200 website for archived results.

Nah, the measuring devices were wonky. £150 says it can't do it again (on GPS), like Viking says it is 100hp lite of those sorts of speeds

Have to love the internet, if the car hadn't been recorded at a proper event it would have been called as rubbish as it was at an official event now the timing gear at VMAX wasn't working that day... Guy's car with very similar conversion did 202 mph. Guess you lot are not used to RUF HP...? The 685HP RUF RT12 did 211... is that wrong as well?
Maybe RUF cars don't show their true potential on the rollers, as I said you can't get 100+mph airflow through the intercoolers and into the engine intake so could explain a lot?

Yes fella, thought you had a different login name (or maybe thats on 911uk?), think this might even be your pic as you can see me in the driving seat
Ref my black Ruf GT2, I don't believe it's in the UK anymore, or even with it's engine. I sold it to a chap who I never met, who bought the car by phone to take the engine and put it into another car. It was collected from me and delivered to a very very smart address after the money came from the Cayman Islands........
The car had a lot of mods including many panels made in carbon (some custom) including full front bumpers, bonnet, rear engine covers, rear wing, plastic windows etc. Yes it was a handful.
There's a short amusing video at a VMax from an Exige owner here:

RUF are great, one of the best Porsche tuners... But no cars, RUF included, will brake 200 on Brunts with less than 700 real HP. And that would be on a perfect run with no head wind.
A standard 997 GT2 I am guessing will do 185/187 on a good day on Brunts without too much wind. On an endless straight it will go faster... A Veyron needs something like a 4 mile straight to hit Vmax.
In the past there were some Vmax days with timing gear that weren't accurate hence a few will argue unrealistic speeds somehow happened. But they didn't. Today Vmax have the latest and greatest timing equipment as well as we many use a calibrated Vbox, so results are a real every time.
I'll throw another 150 quid on top of Toby's to see that happen in real
Btw we have a RUF coming regularly that is lighter, better aero and I think running around 750'ish... That car does 205/206 when wind is not playing up.
When getting into 185+ land on a short'ish straight like Brunts, there are a lot more to it than just dyno recorded 3rd gear pull power numbers. Every mph from then on gets difficult and 195+ just ain't reachable for most.
Spot on, my best was 187 as I recall at vmax just not enough space no matter how quick I managed to coax it around the righthander before. Standard car.
Also a GT2 seems always to make it rain. Friday I had a road trip Norfolk/Surrey returned and it completely lashed down the whole way. I don't think I recall the last dry drive I had.
Still nice to drive though just not as much fun...

This was 05... Awesome !!
Still have that 150 quid ready to anyone who proves on next Vmax that a 650 hp Porsche can break GPS 200 on Brunts on a no tailwind day... Along Toby's, that s a nice easy 300 quid to make.
As reference point, a few years back on a Vmax day with 25-30 mph straight headwind, I was running 199/200 in my first 9e Porsche. 2 weeks later we were up data logging and testing new brake setup with no wind at all. Ambient temp were similar and both days were low humidity. The wind diff meant 205/206 instead of 199/200. Wind plays a serious role when up in speed. And let's not forget my 2011 IC's were the best of the best flowing, a lot more efficient than what was at hand for RUF in 2003-2005.

After a couple of pints last night with Mark the present owner of the Yellow Ruf.We did some internet investigations and discovered that TB993tt had asked the same question regarding power to Dave the chap who drove the car at 206 mph.His reply at the time and one that was excepted, was the car produces 800nm of torque.Thats how it makes its speed. Also mentioned at the time was the cornering speed required to make 206 mph at Brunts.

Over a quiet beer yes, not so keen on a shot frenzy smash up like last time!

Agree I think.. Don't actually remember much, woke up in my hotel room 8.30am but last piece of action I remember was prior mid night. My 9am BF meeting was not that enjoyable :-(

Toby know the track inside out as well, hence he would have doubted like I do. Clearly you need to pick a clean line through the bottom bend, but regardless how much torque, you need a solid 700hp to brake 200 mph on a normal day with no big tail wind and functional timing gear.

Nah, the measuring devices were wonky. £150 says it can't do it again (on GPS), like Viking says it is 100hp lite of those sorts of speeds
Shows how little you know.
David is a friend of mine and I spent a lot of time the yellow Ruf, I know the time, development and serious money that went into making that car what it is, I was at that Vmax in 2009 and I personally traveled in that car at 205mph which was independently recorded on the radar, the speedo was reading 215.
Another friend David Barr was in the car for the 206mph run.
It happened, fact.

Fact is that 632bhp will not get to 200 mph on Brunts unless big tail wind and/or timing gear weren't accurate, and it wasn't those days. End of story !!

100% agreed.
My Ruf was the same engine as Davids and dynoed 630hp at Ruf. The car was also lightened and I did between 100 and 200 runs in total at VMaxes over the years (until I was the first ever person to hit 200mph there and I quit going after that).
All my runs were backed up with my personal GPS or VBox and I tried really really hard in every way possible to reach 200mph on many different occasions and it simply would not get there, always hitting 195-198mph.
Then on the last occasion I decided to attend having removed the rear wing. On that occasion it went 200mph, then 201mph, then 202mph. Of course the car went faster on the Autobahn where the distance are greater.
I have subsequently seen many cars exceed 200mph in subsequent VMaxes, some of which were genuinely capable of that (much higher power) and some where it is clear that either there was a timing beam error or a large tail-wind. Thats not to say the speeds weren't achieved on some occasions, but you simply cannot compare different events unless the distances were the same, the timing properly calibrated and the tailwinds noted (as they do even in athletics where 100m,200m and long-jump records cannot be recorded if wind is above 5mph). VMax is a very professionally run event, for fun and comparisons on the day, but it is not a scientifically comparable event.

David's car also hybrid turbos fitted post Ruf conversion.
200 is a very big number at Brunters and most Pork is quite aerodynamically challenged to boot.
My GT2 is circa 540hp and has hit 192 there, from experience its a long way away from 200 to the extent that even an extra 100 wouldn't get it done.
(Corner speed really is irrelevant, I'd bet most of the 200 cars could still do it from a straight line standing start, I certainly know mine can)

I have done probably 1.500+ runs on Brunts in all conditions, yes corner speed doesn't really matter for the bigger cars. Running 700, 750, 850 & 950 ponies I found a delta of exactly 1 mph on any given day... Running 1.300, its actually easier starting down the bottom bend, grip is tricky up to 130 mph and I haven't yet found a way to carry 130 mph round the bend

Also 100% agree... Funny, was speculating what a Porsche 630 dyno hp would equal on a regular Vmax day and assumed 195-197, but didn't wanna sound too smart
A couple of years ago when I could "only" get to 205/206, I pondered over aero changes as well. Was wondering about stability and hard braking at high speed, but never got around to it. Instead commissioned another big rebuild with 9e that easily took they car to 215 on Brunts on 9e hybrid K24's and a lot of other custom parts including a 3.8 engine with loads of lightweight stuff. Gearing restricted Vmax, so for the next build, the 9eXX car I also had 9e build a new gearbox with Guards custom ratios and their LSD. I found we had loads of set up challenges when doing 220+ on 1 mile, the car got really lively and was all over the place. Eventually we got it right and the car is now dead stabile at 230+, braking though have to be a little concentrated and determent. Aero though is funky when up in speed

Mate 205 is still 5th right?
205/6 was the limit with VTGs, the back pressure in the exhaust manifolds is the bottleneck (3 bar, knock inducing), the hotside (which is pretty much unmoddable because of the special heat resistant alloys used) won't allow much more than about 700hp at full load....
Switching to K24 based units I got sizing which gives mega bottom end and limits power to about 800hp with boost at 2000rpm and with efficiency and 1.1bar boost tops at 50C intake (16 ambient) at full load. My tuners built the record breaking 997 with 1055PS which broke the 400kph barrier but way to laggy for daily driving in the UK - I'll leave the big boys Brunters stuff to you HH, I find stopping from 210 there puckering enough, 230 is

Was just joking Toby... I agree, for road use lower down boost is what you really want. Your latest car is awesome, love how smooth and linear it is through the gears and it is fast. Never understood the crave for big tune on the VTG's, but you also saw the light eventually
The braking bit is deffo exciting with the beams siting so far back, I am reverting to 1/2 and 1 mile runs before it goes wrong. Last year I ran GPS 227.4 on the black marker and still only using probably 75-80% of the power, just imagine what that would mean at full chat going through the Vmax beams, luckily my current gearing tops at 246
Been encouraging Craig to limit speeds to just braking 200 which still is unreachable for most cars. Whether its 203, 204, 205... It doesn't really matter, in the end its just sitting there at full chat through 6th, its the challenge of getting up in speed and perfectly through the gears that is fun and challenging IMO. The big cars can then go and compete on 1 mile or roll on 50-300 kph.
Porsche broke new ground with the VTGs for petrol engines so it seemed right to pursue their vision to the max but it seems that the current GT2 version of the VTG hotside will be the biggest they will ever make. The boost response from VTG is incredible and no normal turbo can match it, from mashing the throttle to the massive torque hit in your back the VTG is so fast, a real thrill however getting over 900NM this sudden hit of torque becomes a bit counter productive as it unsettles the chassis (in gears 1 to 4) and the K24 "smoother" delivery makes for a much nicer drive and better less fraught traction.
I compiled some data from various magazine tests which displays flexibility of various turbo Porsches, obviously different test days/conditions so not 100% comparable but interesting.

Totally agree, especially if guys are going to use vbox. The temptation to say in for that extra mph could be catastrophic.
I certainly don't feel as comfy braking down the 2.

Mate, now we are talking :-)
But I have my own flats just across the border from here, 14 mile flat dead straight 2 lane road with no speed limitations and no cars a Sun morning early... Might next winter do a long long gearbox, curious to see how 280 feels in a 911, but wanna have a little extra stopping margin :-)
Interesting reading Toby... Though I expect quite a lot less than 8 sec on 200-300 from 9eXX, or the car goes straight back to Ken :-) But proves how awesome you made that 7GT2 with RS while retaining drivability. I had same experience all through my various 9e packages up to 9e17, blistering quick on mid and 0-300 accel, maxed the gearing at 215 GPS on 7.400 rpm on Brunts and I could still use it as daily whenever I liked. I even chucked some winters on it and took it to the Alps on a couple of ski trips.
My suggestion is not to record more than 200 regardless where on the straight it's achieved and for the bigger cars do a 1 mile and/or 0-300kph competition.
Funnily, most PAX only want 1 run and then out of the car as quickly as they can. Last time the run off area was full of cars so a little exciting coming down through them hard on the brakes stopping from a 225+ run. It was damp so grip weren't great, I was literally 10-12 mph down when going past the little red house on the left. But Ken wanted the record, so I did a few laps on my own at the end of the day.

Hi Toby,
That day we set the record was not the best conditions - this test run in the morning was at low boost, around 65% and HH was short shifting whilst I was looking for standing water!
http://youtu.be/JGJHWKcTtbw
We did a quick test on 200-300kph with the vbox and record 7.4 seconds at 75% boost.
The car is currently being built to 4.1L with knife edge crank etc. it will be able to run 2.5 bar of boost on the 9exx config but we will run at 2 bar max for longevity and only on one or two runs at event.
I expect the car to run 230+ in a mile which is very comfortable at vmax! but expect it will hit 240+ at the black line that we use for braking. Of course that is dependent on weather - we ran 1.45 bar at vmax for the record, anything more and it was spinning the rears on max shift from 4th to 5th at 170mph plus.
Car will be ready in around. 4-6 weeks.
Ken
Going back on to engine tuning and what people have done to their factory spec GT2s...
Do people replace the IPD and Y pipe with something a little less restrictive. I guess the GT2 IPD is same as as the 996 TT intake in which case it's not the ideal (3rd year fluids was a while ago - but at least i did CFD for a while). From what i have read Ruf change the 'intake' on the Rturbo 550. I have tried to find out what has actually been changed. i can't believe that they would go to the bother of actually getting new runners cast for the actually intake manifold - that would be hideous - besides that's not were the gains are on a turbo car - I'm sure porsche (who hold a tonne of patents in the area of intake tuning) know how to get the tuned lengths right.
it's got to be a turbo pipe kit and better Y pipe with IPD? - I'm a bit confused...and then I go and find a shot of an Rturbo (think it's a 550 but i guess it might be a 520) with what looks like a completely standard intake....
If it's just a case a a new ECU flash - ok better strategy too, hybrid turbos and shockingly expensive exhaust that doesn't flow that much better that stock, then where to they get their power from? where's the DV valves better flowing intercoolers and all that jazz? - what are they using - THE FORCE?
No I don't think so - but please free to educate me. I'm not talking about the Nardo engine. I'm talking about the R520 / 550 which was a much lighter conversion according to the ruf catalogue I downloaded years ago.
I'm sure the Ruf system does flow better that the OEM one (I was tongue in cheek to some extend). But the best flowing exhaust in the world does't get you huge power gains. What, maybe 20-30PS for a good exhaust?
i was wondering if Ruf were getting all that torque spread from just the hybrid K24s and an ECU tune? Doesn't seem possible not with the relatively low boost figures they seem to use. I'd just like to know what magic they are working on the intake to make the VE numbers that they would need to generate that much BMEP. Surely, they have massively improved the cylinder filling without touching the ports or the valve lift. Without running big boost, there are improvements in AIT to be had- lower pressure loss intercoolers (but these are spec'd in the R550 pack)
Again i'm not talking about the Nardo engine here - just the civilian spec conversion that people had put in the their 996 turbos.

The answer to your question is part of what I was describing above with my low rev performance numbers and how low range torque amount and spread should be considered when looking at peak power numbers
If you look at Ruf's packages for the 996 turbo starting at 485hp
http://www.rufauto.us/index.php?option=com_content...
The extra torque and power is gained from the turbocharger/exhaust and you can see the more power one gets the further up the rev band the peak torque lies, this is simply because the turbos are bigger at each stage to enable them to flow more air.
FWIW I think the 550 package would not need intercoolers at this level.
The bigger turbos mean the boost can stay relatively low (at peak power) and still flow a lot more air and have the benefit of the boosted air being cooler (than a smaller blower flowing the same amount).
The high, broad torque curves are by clever (ECU boost control) tuning using high boost at peak torque then tapering off before rising again at peak power, like Porsche do it but more so.
Have a peek at these power kits, these were developed by Ruf's ex chief engineer (who nowdays builds more advanced Porsche turbo engines than Ruf) and power numbers are quoted in similar manner to Ruf ie engine dyno full load.

I am not sure why you think this is clever tuning Toby - it is straight forward although most seem to not understand the concept. You increase load values earlier in the range - it is very simply after all peak power is not as important as power under the curve. It also is a direct result of the intake manifolds - a 996 turbo manifold hit peak around the 4k mark and load falls afterwards. A 997 turbo manifold by nature keeps constant levels of load, but tails off after 6500rpm - it drops like a stone. Having a GT3 intake means load continues to rise.
If I suggest to someone to pay me 10k to put on larger turbos to get 485ps they would think I was nuts. These days are over. Completely unnecessary.
You are quite right - you can gain power at lower boost by using bigger chargers - we have a gt2 that will be running this week that will be over 800 at 1.2 bar.

I'm sure the intake manifolds have a role in the torque curve (as they do in N/A engines) but it is mainly the ECU controlling the boost (via load values) determining the curve - I think you have spent too much time with your 1XXX engines where all (big) load targets requested can be hit and these manifold characteristics then come into consideration.
The "clever" bit was a tuner being able to manipulate the boost using the factory ECU (like the factory do) rather than a fixed boost via an external controller like many of the other tuners do. It is not so clever now but when the first tuners started doing it on the 993 turbos back in the late 90s it was pretty clever

These days are not over if you want 485PS for racing or for extended autobahn use, the thing which has changed is that people will accept a tune which is way more aggressive than their factory tune in terms of heat (closer to knock etc) basically because they are unlikely to breach those limits. You stick one of "your" (not yours but generic
) 485PS, K16 tuned 996 turbos on the engine dyno and fully load it from 6000 to 7000rpm for 90 seconds (like Ruf and RS do) and you wouldn't have your 485PS, you may even have a mess - but these are German engineers doing things the Porsche way and this way is not relevant to many people's usage.

That is awesome, great efficiency

I have seen a lot of tunes that extend the knock control - this is very popular amongst some tuners but frankly is just crazy way of tuning. In simply terms they increase the value before it will knock by 3%...lol. The number of cars we see that come in around in knock mode is incredible. I actually told one customer to park his car up - knock control was at 43% positive!
We tune the same as Porsche does, but even our stage 1 comes with GT2RS intercoolers as standard. With those you just don't lose the power on long runs. It quite happily sits on the autobann. Even Henrik's 9e20 car sat for 14km at speeds between 180-215gps as a test without issues - we just ran on cruise mode - see below.
Once we get about a certain power we use the external boost control simply because it offers maximum flexibility to the customer - by enabling 4 different settings, it provides a cruise, track, race and kill mode. That is by choice, but you could simply run it on the standard ECU boost control peaking at a low boost rather than running a boost controller.
We now have boost control by IATs and other parameters which previously were not available before, so fixed boost is not something we do now.
All good fun. Hope you have made some progress this week.
Will give you a shout next month for some playtime mate.
K.

It is hard for those of us not living in Germany to understand just how much stress you can give a Porsche turbo with the Autobahn being part of daily life. You are lucky having H who lives close enough to give you valuable experience.
These top German outfits (not forgetting Swiss Sportec and possibly deleting 9ff) do seem to have a LOT of what would be considered extreme customers who hammer their 7-800hp Porsche turbos on a daily basis (in temperatures in the 30s in summer) and have done for the last 30 years since Ruf introduced the BTR and was joined by Lotec, Cartronic,Kremer etc.... they tune engines to this conservative standard because of this long term German experience, nuff said really
My little 1st gear boost problem of course completely disappeared on arrival but the plan was always to leave the motor there, having a fancy LSD fitted and general fettle hopefully get it back this year

Lol...general fettle...I wonder what that will be - talk soon Toby.

Hi Jon,
I can see the car has Mk.2 wheels but I thought the Mk2's had carbon fibre mirrors - or was that an option? Great looking car though - if only it was a few grand cheaper I'd be interested. I'll double check down the back of the sofa just in case

carbon fibre rear spoiler blade, mirrors and bumper vent insert were standard on clubsport model mk2, but were no cost option/delete on it, super expensive to retro fit now! Red MK2 owned by PH on here doesn't have them. After reading through the hard backed brochure, an exterior carbon pack was also available to the comfort (so standard non clubsport version) also, has an option code so would appear on the bonnet sticker if factory fitted.

against the clubsport fashionistas, but mk2 looks so much better colour-coded than with the CF bits
Looks better/more cohesive with colour coded.
Looks cooler/more purposeful with CF.
Not that you see many GT2's full stop, but I have seen a few different cars at events over the years etc but never one with the carbon pack. I recall someone on PH had a polar silver mk 2 car with it fitted, I think it looks amazing, combined with the wheels makes the car look so much fresher.
Can't go wrong either way, think you either like the carbon or don't.
Photos are still live:

AWESOME... Don't sell, you'll regret. These will no doubt go up, they are the last pure turbo cars. Future holds automatic with all kinds of electronics destroying the purity.
I decided to keep it and will put it in storage if the move overseas with work still goes ahead. Photos got lots of hits so the cars are still attracting attention.
I've now managed to collect all the exterior carbon trim pieces, wheels nearly completed through some kind offers via PH.
Will hold onto the arctic silver pieces so I can have both options in the future if I decide to revert.

No, they were available from the factory.
Correct. I have a set of carbon mirrors, genuine Porsche ones big but though!
They are carbon wrapped over a regular mirror case, and that's how they left the factory. So purely cosmetic with no weight saving benefit.
Still available via main dealer at £880 a side, just for the housing!
