Hello everyone, i appreciate the info on these forums as a Porsche owner and hoping someone with experience can help me. I have a 2009
Cayman
2 door coupe and I am trying to get a new head unit installed. Every dealership or even BestBuy has different parts on their quotes needed for installation, the main difference is the "AXXESS Car Audio Replacement Interface for Select Porsche Vehicles" which BestBuy wanted to install AX-PO90052 and every other place had a different interface or part in the 300-500 dollar range which they said is needed in order to install a new head unit and have the steering controls work. The antenna and dash kit prices are super cheap and i dont mind the price on the interface but im wondering what ones you guys have used here. A lot of installation places also asked if i have i need a fiber optic harness which i have no idea about either.
Additional info besides having a base 2009
Cayman
is that it has the sound plus option.
If someone could help me with what is actually needed and is correct I would greatly appreciate it and thank you in advance. Here is a picture of what im trying to replace below.
Try checking Crutchfield.com. They will typically tell you everything needed to install the particular head unit you want. You can also give them a call... They are usually very knowledgeable and helpful.
Thank you, they told me on the phone the AXXESS shows for Bose only sound systems, not sure why everyone is trying to sell me that part as needed locally. Im in the middle of nowhere so no one has any experience with Porsches whatsoever.
If you are mechanically inclined installing a new head unit is not too difficult. Crutchfield usually has good installation manuals that are included if you purchase from them.
Look at the speakers on your doors - do they have an emblem on them that says "Bose"? If not - you don't have a fiber. the fiber was used to connect the Bose amp with the existing radio.
And I'll 3rd the Crutchfield suggestion. You don't want to use BestBuy - you have minimum wage kids working there butchering wiring harnesses. If you can't DIY, ask around for the best aftermarket audio shop in your area, and turn your trust and wallet over to them.
