Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

A long while back, I posted that my 987 Boxster came with an issue (among others) -- where the rear trunk light will not turn on when I open the trunk. I still can't figure this out. Thoughts? 1) Both the bulb and socket are absolutely fine. In fact, I can use my PIWIS 2 to test the connection and it turns the light on and off. So the car knows about it. 2) The car can tell when the trunk is open. If I drive away with the rear lid open, I get a warning message on the dash in red. 3) I did make sure to code the REAR with the PIWIS showing that does have a rear interior light when I had to replace the REAR control box under the seat. I'm wondering if there's some specific microswitch that has failed by the trunk release that I'm overlooking -- that's separate than the one that tells the car that the rear trunk is closed/open? Thanks!

POST 2Original post

I would check with the PIWIS the "state" of the switch seen at the control unit. IE - what the control unit thinks - trunk open or closed. The circuit from the control unit to the lamp is obviously OK. Your car does still have the standard filament bulb there?

POST 3Original post

Interesting, Don. I haven't used the PIWIS for troubleshooting except to be able to cycle the light on/off. Makes sense, and I'll go back in to see what the deal is. Pretty sure the trunk is still standard and not LED; good thing to check! Separately, I'm having what is likely a microswitch issue with my passenger door -- external handle. Both interior driver and passenger door handles cause the windows to drop, as does the driver's exterior door handle. Nothing from the passenger exterior door. Looks like the answer is swapping out the unit, which apparently is QUITE the project to replace. These may be projects I have to address in the fall/winter -- as I have a lot more important car issues to remedy to prepare it for winter. But at least I hope to be headed in the correct direction!

POST 4Original post

Try using PIWIS to to a vehicle handover. The rear Module could have been replaced and still be in "Transport mode". That's what happened to mine.

POST 5Original post

Thanks, @ A9872namedSid !!! I'm unclear as how to do a vehicle handover procedure using a PIWIS 2.… but just found the YouTube video And will give it a go. I removed the OEM radio…and I hope the reset will work. Any suggestions, let me know and meanwhile I’ll look into it!

POST 6Original post

On PIWIS 3 it's under additional menu. I'm not sure where it resides in PIWIS 2 though. Sorry.

POST 7Original post

No apologies necessary! This is fantastic and I'm looking forward to seeing if this clears it. So many thanks, and I'll report back here later this week with my findings.

POST 8Original post

A9872namedSid - Thanks!!! You are a rock star!!! Seriously - I'm not kidding. You were the ONLY person who had the correct answer, and this has been a longstanding problem since I got the car last November. The handoff procedure through the PIWIS immediately knocked it out; I'm guessing it properly recoded the REAR control box and it needed more than manual coding. The only thing that is different though, that I'll have to chase down, is that the passenger door window now does not go up/down slightly when opening the passenger door -- when you pull the both the interior and exterior door handles. Works fine on the driver's side. Something was wrong before this handover procedure where it wouldn't work with only the external door handle (interior handle was fine), but again -- now both don't work. I'll have to go back in with the PIWIS sometime soon and see what I can find out, if anything. Hopefully it all can be coded and no replacement microswitches will be needed; apparently the door handle mechanism is a bear to replace.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
