Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I found out a bit more about the rebuild from PPK and it used cast iron liners.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am a newbie on the forum and am looking at purchasing a 996 (a manual C2 or C4 or C4S). I have seen a few so far and am interested in a couple of other potentials. One has a full engine rebuild by Performance Porsche Klassiker in Brighouse - does anyone have any knowledge about the standard of their work? The other car has had the block bored out by Quasar Engineering in Stockport and steel liners fitted. Has anyone used these guys for engineering work and was it to a good standard? The idea of a car with a full rebuild appeals, but other than Hartech there doesn't seem to be much info out there. Any advice is appreciated. Andy

POST 2Original post

a lot of garage offer engine rebuild, many actually outsource to Hartech ! without more details on the rebuild it is difficult but if they are warranted then it's going to be an improvement for a generation of 911 that is 20 to 27 years old

POST 3Original post

PPK are known in the North. They recommissioned my Aircooled car last year. They know their onions. I've not heard bad words about their quality of work. The other mob I've never heard of

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. I found out a bit more about the rebuild from PPK and it used cast iron liners. I have read loads about the Hartech Nikasil liners with excellent reviews but can't find much out there about steel or CI.

POST 5Original post

If steel/iron liners not fixed in place (eg. with a top hat and clamped between block and head) then they can slip as the thermal expansion of steel vs aluminium is different.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
