Try going to
Homelink
site and put in your car specifics and garage door opener brand and they should give you more specific directions. I did that for my
981
S and finally got it to work. Good Luck

Learn button on opener combined with pressing the wanted button as directed, the operation where you use the opener clicker in front of the bumper till the lights flashed never worked for me
My 2010
Cayman
's
homelink
won't work with modern door openers. It worked fine with older (circa 2000) openers. When I replaced my old opener I had to buy a repeater which I paired with my car. It converted the signal to the newer
homelink
protocol and re-broadcast it. My only complaint is the range isn't as good. In my case I bought a 855LM LiftMaster
HomeLink
Repeater Kit (used on ebay for $25) which was compatible with my Chamberlain opener.
I've read that it was possible to upgrade the car's
homelink
receiver/transmitter (under the bumper skin) to the newer version, but installing the repeater in the garage was much cheaper and easier.
👆 What RSchwerer said. Had the identical issue and that's the only solution.
This news makes me want to buy a motor and control board off Ebay for my Genie screw drive and stash it. Better yet locate new old stock and stash that! Or put an opener in the Porsche which for some reason I completely dislike.
I have liftmaster bridge and door sensors linked to my genie garage door openers so I can use the phone to open and close.
Though the homelike in my
981
opens both doors just fine.
You can usually tell what you've got by the color on the learn button on the opener. Here's the Chamberlain/LiftMaster list.
My opener is from 2012 with a purple button and works fine with the 2010
Cayman
Homelink
. I'm guessing the later Security+ 2.0 ones may need the repeater

My 2008 CS required the repeater on garage doors installed in 2014 but not on garage doors installed in 2003.
