I'm going to have the front bumper cover off soon to clean out the radiators and to replace a bunch of rusty fasteners, and would like to install the insert while I'm in there.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My 996 has been missing the front threads for the tow hook since I got the car. Fortunately, I've not yet had to tow the vehicle, but I happened to notice it when checking over the car. I'm going to have the front bumper cover off soon to clean out the radiators and to replace a bunch of rusty fasteners, and would like to install the insert while I'm in there. The trouble is, I can't find a part #. Its not listed individually in the parts diagram, but is clearly not welded onto the crash bar in any way. It looks like its secured with 2 bolts? I've attached pictures. Anyone know where I can get this, or am I stuck paying $400 + freight shipping for a whole new crash bar? Thanks! Threaded insert in red box No insert in diagram (thought it might be #6, but #6 doesn't get a mention in the manifest, it skips from 5 to 7)

POST 2Original post

Thats not it. I cant find it either. But here is the entire crash bumper for $60. I would call them and im sure they can pull just the part for $20. http://dcautocatalog.com/illustration/index/526909816

Thanks for the advice. I've gone ahead and sent them an eMail, hopefully they will be able to just sell me the piece. If not, I agree, 60 dollars is probably worth it. Don't know what I'm going to do with a spare crash bar, and no idea if I can even sell it without the insert. I really want to talk to whoever removed it from my car... the more I work on it, the more I uncover weird things like this, and the more utterly insane the last owner seems.

POST 4Original post

If u call ask or hit the extension for Randy, he has been resl good to deal with. Im sure they have an f'ed crash bar to pull it from.

I'll give them a chance to write back, but if I get nowhere with that I'll definitely try. I honestly forgot these guys existed. I've bought some stuff from them before, so I know how helpful they can be.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

They were able to pull one for me, 50 USD shipped. About half of that was shipping, so I don't really mind. A whole crash bar would have been about 150 shipped for context.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 18057716

Yeah if I had a piece to measure Id honestly just machine a new one for cheaper (all I know is left hand thread and the pitch), but at this point the convenience makes it worth it.

POST 9Original post

Mine is rht. I have read that on some other p-cars its lht. It appears to be an acme thread, deff not a standard pitch

POST 10Original post

Cayenne uses the left-hand thread. All the 911's are right hand as far as I can tell.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Maybe I'm remembering wrong. I'll measure it out later I guess.

POST 12Original post

Yes, right hand thread. And yes, Acme thread.
