Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I have an '08 Cayman S, and until recently both frunk and engine compartment lamps were working fine. Noticed last weekend that both were suddenly 'off'. I've read about the switches on the hood/deck latches going out, but seems they wouldn't at the same time (especially if I hadn't opened them in awhile). I did pull both bulbs to verify that they are still good. By chance, are these lamps controlled by one of the light switches in the overhead console? I've yet to fully master what each of those switches control (other than the interior lights).

POST 2Original post

Update: using my Foxwell 530 reconnect with the engine compartment light and it works. When I try to do the same with the front luggage compartment, I get a message ‘unable to communicate’. Not sure where to go with this one?

POST 3Original post

What module did you connect to for the rear compartment light? Rear body control module? And where are you getting the "unable to communicate" message - what are you trying to communicate with? And to answer your other question about the switches - my answer is "dunno.." since you have a Cayman and I have a Boxster. It might be the interior switch turns off ALL the interior lights (which would include the one in the rear of the hatchback section) on the Cayman. In most cars that's how it works, one switch setting kills all interior lights, door open or not.

POST 4Original post

I accessed the engine compartment light through the rear control module. I attempted to access the front light through the front control module. It had a link to the luggage compartment line but when I tried to access it I received a ‘connection error’ message

POST 5Original post

When I have a chance I'll hook mine up and see if I can replicate what you were doing.

POST 6Original post

Both lights had been functioning properly. Then I did a project and had the front hood open for a few hours. Both lights went ‘off’ and neither would come back on. Reprogrammed the engine compartment light, but get a message for the front referencing a ‘lack of communication’.
