Hi, I've come back from a weekend away during which time some movers have moved furniture around the garage. The drivers wing mirror is on its mount but is bizarrely totally free to move back and forth, no resistance at all? Any ideas? I see a big rusty bolt type thing in the corner now I've removed the glass , is there a knack to tightening? I presume I take the blue cover off. I can't see any impact on the dirty mirror so a bit clueless as to how this happened unless something just gave with age on a 25 year old car! Thank you. Edward

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi, an odd problem to have, did you manage to resolve this?
Is number 5 in the image a kind of friction / interference part ; to provide just enough stiction to hold the mirror in place but allow you to swing inwards?
Thank you, not solved yet, baby on the way shortly has delayed things! Need to get a wrench on the bolt
Took the mirror apart and bought a new one to swap over, the large spring which is at the door end of the mirror had cracked with age, 26 years. So the friction was no longer there. Next problem... The bolts have sheared with age holding the mirror to the door, do we know what size they are, Torx? Cheers .
