My 7 year old battery is dead, as in DEAD. I was told new battery has to have new info put into car's computer or new battery will be destroyed, or something in car damaged. Is this true? Can an iCarsoft POR II OBD II reader do this battery reset info? I can get exact battery dealer installed for $180 - dealer wants over $500 to install new one. Help. Please. TIA, GN

Untrue. I disconnected a 2011 987.2 from the battery . No problem reconnecting, you may get one error that clears itself after the car is driven a short distance. As long as you are exchanging a lead acid for a lead acid you'll be fine. PS If the dealer told you that, make sure to tell him the entire Porsche community frowns upon disinformation spread to make money.

Gatornapper, I'm just confirming what Boristhespyder said. Absolutely no problem just swapping the battery . Some of the new charging systems will recognize the battery type, age and size to tweak their charging profile (which will extend battery life). Not a problem for our cars.

Happily our cars are too old to be that smart. There is no battery registration on the 987.. but bet there is on a 981 ..

there are a few steps to set up things back to normal after a dead battery : 1. the auto up/down for the power windows (search for the window reset procedure) 2. drive for a few miles/km for PSM and other codes 3. you may need to do a full steering lock left/right in some cases
