Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Check i get 0' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check i get 0' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey all. I've noticed that while idling, the oil pressure fluctuated up and down by around 0.5, particularly when part warm. Is this normal or an indication that something is going wrong, e.g. the oil pressure senderis on its way out? OIl pressure seems to normal (via the guage), around 1.8 when hot and around 5 when driving steady state on the motorway.

POST 2Original post

When sender units fail then they normally show a higher reading .. Quick check is ignition on but engine not running and it should read 0 .. anything above that is a faulty sender unit . Cold start and you should get just below 5 bar at idle which will drop as the oil warms up... this is also dependent on ambient temps .. lower in summer basically but still between 4.5 - 5 bar . Pretty much anything above 1 bar at idle is correct at operating temps with 1.5 bar being spot on. The system though is not hugely accurate , a proper test would be a garage fitting an oil pressure gauge and reading off from cold to hot .

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks. I'm seeing what you're describing, though I'll double check I get 0 with ignition on and engine off. Its the fluctiation that has got me thinking. I know the pressure rises and calls with engine speed but I'd expect pressure to be pretty steady at idle. I'm not seeing anything to suggest I've got an oil pressure problem, just wondering if its a symptom of something.

POST 4Original post

car to car, it's never consistent, roughly the same but as long as it's doing what it should do it should be ok
