Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Use fuse box and a fuse adapter' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace with the add-a-circuit' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
You just find a switched fuse, pull it out, replace with the add-a-circuit, then put the fuse into the slot on the add-a-circuit.

I noticed that the key doesn't have to be in the ignition in order to use the cigarette outlets.

since the v1 outlet is plugged into the cigarrette outlet, will it still use power when the car is off?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I see that a lot of people hardwire their v1, but i didn't wanna mess with any wiring. What I found useful was the outlet by the passenger footwell. I plugged it in there and went around the passenger pillar to the top of the car. Anyway, my question is.. since the v1 outlet is plugged into the cigarrette outlet, will it still use power when the car is off? I noticed that the key doesn't have to be in the ignition in order to use the cigarette outlets. thanks
it will draw power unless you can physically turn the v1 off. I know someone that uses that outlet for their FM modulator and they have to physically power it off; though it takes such little juice it's not a big deal if he forgets. - S.S.
I had mine in that same cig lighter as you have yours, but found that I would forget to turn it off. I got lucky no dead battery because I usually caught it the next morning.
Since then I hardwired it without cutting any wires. I used the the fuse box and a fuse adapter. It works perfectly and all wires are hidden! Ag Croc showed me how to do it and it was very easy and clean.
He posted his directions and photos under mods. I will see if I can find it. Look under "Articles" it is there.

I have taken the same approach for close to a year now and have had zero problems. In fact, I frequently leave it on overnight and once left it on for 2 days while on a business trip and haven't had any dead battery problems. Whatever power it draws, it must be very miniscule.
Order the wiring kit from Valentine 1 and it's so easy to wire the V1 into the fuse box. I'm not that handy and it only took me 40 minutes from reading the instruction to clean up. It's a better setup (turns off automatically, and looks cleaner too).
You don't have to. The how-to in the article section shows exactly how to do it. You just need something called an 'Add-a-circuit' (described in the article) - $2 at Autozone. You just find a switched fuse, pull it out, replace with the add-a-circuit, then put the fuse into the slot on the add-a-circuit. It has a built in lead to connect your V1. FULLY reversable with NO cutting.
Pretty much what RussK was describing.
I third RussK and Swancoat, it's so easy to do and no wire cutting or splicing; use the add-a-circuit, or one of radioshack's cheap connectors and make sure you do it on the live side of the fuse as to keep the fuse functional. - SS
Yes SF is right, the article by AgCroc (Marty) is great and once you read it I can assure you that you will be convinced the add-a-circuit to the fuse box is simple and clean. The most difficult part was finding a ground and Marty helped me with that as there is really only one, which is behind the clutch pedal.
