Hi guys,
I just found, if you have regular head lights and you would like to upgrade to
XENON... go to this web site:http:
www.kaixenkits.com
Cost aprox. $280 (depends).
It is install yourself thing, easy like 1.2.3
I hope this will help you..
Before you do that in the US, just beware that all HID conversions are illegal unless they come from the factory (i.e., Porsche OEM parts).
I am sorry to hear that. Personally I am not from US and I guess this is not a strictly site for US citizens. There might be someone reading this perhaps from Japan ??
Any way, it is good to know, thanks.
Perhaps that law exists to prevent the use of non-self-leveling units. Glare is the issue.
It's not necessarily glare, as d2r reflector based, non-self levling xenon
headlights
are legal if they come from the factory. It's the alteration of using bulb bases for halogen headlamps with the outer shell from xenon bulbs; enough testing hasn't been done (or will be done) to DOT approve them. Better HID retrofit companies typically do what they can to realign the beams to prevent odd beam patterns.
I personally am not very impressed with Kaixen's product or website, other companies are out there that seem to have better kits. Also, there is one site that actually sells 987 Boxster S xenon projectors, but you'd have to open up the headlight and spend quite some time changing projectors. - Suneet
I dunno but the cops forum discusses it and the DOT site has cases where they went after the people who sold them in large numbers in the US. I think its mostly a safety thing ... not DOT approved.
Will you get a fix-it ticket. Doubtful, unless a cop sees you coming at them with glare in HIS eyes. Then he might (or so I have read).
It isn't legal in any country, you guys have DOT marking, whereas here in Europe we have EC and R approvals (those circles with an E followed by a number and a bunch of numbers outside the circle you can find in every component of your cars). Anyway if you don't have autoleveling for the
headlights
as well as the headlamp washing can not be approved and that is really difficult to retrofit.
By the way in Asia-Japan (TRIAS) they have its own approvals as they do in the Middle East (Gulf Standards), Australia (ADR)...
Anyway, it is not legal to do it anywhere
Would a cop really know what he/she is looking at? Would you think twice if you saw a Porsche with HID's?
that depends. If its 4200K, probably not. However, most kids want to run at 10K or 12K ... extremely purples and the cops know that.
They are pretty easy to pick out ... just find a long line of cars at night and find the one with the purple lights.
I thought all lights are not autoleveling, am I wrong? And halogens and HIDs are usualy tied to the suspension. I know in my other car there is like tie-rod on both sides that is connected to the
headlights
(that car is non-HID).
