Issue:
2007 987
Cayman
2.7L won't rev above ~3.5 thousand rpm. Issue arose midway through a bucket seat install however those systems should be completely unrelated. Car still drives and everything works it just only with super low revs(very fun to get going on even a slight incline btw) Car also has a PSM yaw module ground disconnect switch for true PSM off capabilities on track days.
Troubleshooting Attempts:
New accelerator pedal
Durametric scan from mechanic showing several codes
only
related to the throttle body
Install of IPD plenum and GT3 throttle body(if im gonna replace it might as well upgrade)
Throttle body reset procedure, battery disconnect reconnect, etc
Different mechanic had it for around a month, twsted all the electrical connections, and came up with nothing
Ideas:
Replace faulty clutch safety switch
Resolder PSM ground disconnect switch out of the system
ECU flash???
Really not sure where to go from here as it feels like I've tried everything and I'm not sure what still needs to be replaced. Any ideas help and I'll answer any questions to the best of my ability.
Welcome to Planet-9 - the Porsche Pedal Pushers Dream Forum!
Before I suggest anything to try - do you have access to a Porsche specific diagnostics tool?
Troubleshooting by replacing parts or flashing the ECU really can get expensive. It's usually much less expensive to have some clue what the issue is and then bring that info to the forum and wait for us to hash it over, based on actual data.
If you were to have a tool such as one of the Foxwell tools (we discuss those in our diagnostics forum) - they have the capability of reading the output from BOTH of the pedal potentiometers, and I believe the ability to activate the throttle body - making sure it can open fully.
The mechanics seem to be lost on the problem, making me think they don't own diagnostics tools. The one saying he "twisted all the electrical connections" sounds like he's spouting BS, or simply doesn't know what he's doing.
You say:
I suggest you go to our diagnostics forum and decide which tool you're going to purchase, or find a new mechanic who understands electronics to some extent (they're actually quite rare) and who owns the needed diagnostics tool. Fixing by replacing parts - the last part you replace will be the one that fixes it - but it can get awfully expensive getting to that last part.
BTW - when you mention the car won't go above 3k RPM - what exactly are the symptoms?
Does it just stop increasing in revs? Does it do it all the time, or only when the car is moving? Are there any noises or odd feelings involved when it reaches the max RPMs? The reason I'm asking these questions is - I am wondering what made you conclude the problem must be the accelerator/throttle body - there are a number of other things that can go wrong causing the engine to not reach maximum revs.
