Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I recently had new tyres, clutch, discs/pads and a rear control arm replaced on my 2003 TT. It then had a full 4 wheel geometry performed. Within a few hundred miles the suspension was creaking again so the car was returned to the garage who this time suggested that the other control arms needed replacing. Now before the car was delivered for the 4 wheel geometry only the rear off side made any creaking sound. I now have a couple of questions: Could the 4 wheel geometry (if not done properly?) have caused the additional creaking; and Is it unusual to have to replace all the control arms after 4 years and 38k miles; and (Most importantly) Could the subsequent replacement of the remaining 3 control arms have any affect on the 4 wheel geometry. I would like to clear this up before I settle the account. Thanks

POST 3Original post

David, To me, creaking usually suggests worn bushes somewhere - I think anytime you replace control arms, you usually need to get your geo reset... although an indie like JZ or Parr may give more accurate advice.

POST 4Original post

I would have thought that any change (no matter how tiny) in the control arms will affect the orientation of the hub and therefore the geometry. So, even replacing the bushes will alter the set up.
