I replaced all the plastic door panel retainers as well as tightened all the screws that held the speaker to the enclosure and enclosure tight to the door.

Suggestion
Remove the door panel and check the mounting screws for the plastic speaker enclosure mounted in the door assembly.

I don't believe so but I'll have to double check tonight.
Replace door clips, i guess), though the panel's loose

The panel is loose and that could be the culprit (my first step is going to be to replace the door clips, I guess), though the panel's loose on the drivers side as well and that side doesn't make any abrasive noises.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The passenger door in my '99 Carrera aerokit rattles when the bass plays at really any volume. The panel is loose and that could be the culprit (my first step is going to be to replace the door clips, I guess), though the panel's loose on the drivers side as well and that side doesn't make any abrasive noises. Has anyone had a similar experience? I'm wondering if the speaker in that door is broken, if that's the case how simple is a replacement? I could certainly do the work myself I'm just worried about sourcing a new panel. I think it's relatively fair to assume it's a speaker related issue because the panel doesn't make any noises or rattle when driving at high speeds or anything, just when any bass-y music is playing. That being said, the bass could just be rattling the loose panel so I suppose I can't say for sure without taking it apart. I'm really just trying to figure out if it's worth my time to get new clips or anything before just finding a replacement panel to install. Any thoughts or experience would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Its not rare to have the speaker itself make that rattle. The voice coil is hitting the magnet or iron core inside the speaker because the suspension has worn out, decomposed, etc. My cars speakers are like this, and while Im a big audio guy, have installed upgraded audio components in my cars and my house, I havent done anything to my car because I end up just listening to the engine.
There are many threads on here about upgrading the audio in our cars. First step is to listen for the rattle by the speaker itself. Second step is remove the speaker grill and you might even see the issue if its the speaker.
If its not the speaker, youll have to take the speaker out, look for something loose, or ultimately take the door panel off.
I bet its the speaker driver itself.
Thanks so much! Any tips on removing the speaker grille without taking the panel off? I gave it a crack yesterday and couldn't get too far.. I wasn't trying for long though.
I think you've answered your own question and know what needs to be done. And yes, it happened to me. I replaced all the plastic door panel retainers as well as tightened all the screws that held the speaker to the enclosure and enclosure tight to the door.
Remove the door panel and check the mounting screws for the plastic speaker enclosure mounted in the door assembly. Theyre known to come loose and rattle, and you can replace the door panel clips at the same time.
