Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've made some red engine intake plenum caps for my
981 Cayman
S, and I believe they may be compatible with some 987
Cayman
engines as well. If anyone has a 987
Cayman
with a clear engine cover and caps that look like the ones in the photo below, I would appreciate it if you could say which generation (
987.1
or
987.2
) and trim (base or S) you have. I also have a couple sets available for anyone who's interested. They stick in place with 3M double-sided foam tape, and make a very easy alternative to painting your stock parts. Thanks!
Hey man. I ran into your post. I know it’s 3 years old so it’s a long shot but if you have these 9A1 red white engine caps still let me know. I have a
987.2
with the 3.4 and just got a clear cover. I’d love these if you are selling and think they should fit. Thanks
Sal
Hey Lola
So… this is my second
987.2
.
I had the clear cover on my first one in Tennessee which is similar climate to you. There’s no heat issue in the cabin that I experienced in the 8-10k mi I drove with it on. There is some more engine noise but I am a gear head and like those noises. They’re not for everyone though so best thing to do is drive with the carpet foam off and it’ll pretty much sound similar to that experience.
now I got another
987.2
after trying 991 and
981
and not feeling the same connection. I decided to get the cover again since I love looking at the engine and it’s not a daily driver.
Right on! Great idea.....I will take off the carpet and see how it sounds but I totally agree with you. Id rather hear the sweet music of the 3.4 flat6. I'm typically driving without the radio on.
Thanks for responding and post some pics of the new engine bay when you're done. Where did you get your clear cover?
I keep the carpet in my engine interior, but removed the drive-out foam that was on the backsides of the metal covers. Allows a bit more engine sound, but not too much.
Hello - I have a
2007 Cayman S
and to me it does not look like those would be compatible - the engine in your picture looks completely different which make sense since a
987.2
is an updated motor vs. the
987.1
. But man, if available, I would love a set for my
987.1
! Great looking product.
LOL, in my opinion the
Porsche
mid-engines look very unimpressive from the top. So a clear cover is almost pointless. Just a mess of plumbing and wires with an occasional recognizable engine part. Out of the car on an engine stand they are impressive.
OTOH, I prefer looking at it from underneath. The mechanical stuff looks impressive from that angle.
Maybe I could get it mounted upside-down so I could see that through the clear engine cover?
Thread closed. In agreement with Henry
@OneTimeCS
- I'm closing this and other threads. Henry never intended for these threads to become sales vehicles for the engine covers. He produces these as a favor for enthusiasts with a very narrow profit margin - not enough perhaps for him to pay for advertising on Planet-9.
The owners of Planet-9, ZenFora/VerticalScope are a profit making organization. They make money by the advertising people and companies pay to sell and/or promote their products on the forum. Obviously having people selling a product, even at a very low margin without paying for advertising is unfair to those who do pay and support the forum. Without the paying advertisers there wouldn't be a forum.
SO - I've discussed this with Henry, he never intended these threads to be sales threads, but he felt it would be impolite to simply ignore inquiries. Meanwhile he is talking to VerticalScope about becoming an advertiser. If you want to discuss these sort of things in the mean time - I'd suggest contacting him here via personal messaging.
