Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

The dealer said that it's prob just the battery uncharged, but even after half an hour of driving the problem persisted when turning it off and back on again.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys, I'm about to buy a 2003 996 Carerra, but when I went to start the car it wasn't too happy starting. It rumbled, but with a bit of gas it started up. Once up and running, the voltage meter was very slightly dipping up and down (very slightly). The dealer said that it's prob just the battery uncharged, but even after half an hour of driving the problem persisted when turning it off and back on again. Does anyone know if it could be the battery? or is it something more serious? Thanks, Ali

POST 2Original post

They are prone to eating batteries. I had to have one replaced on my 2003 996 earlier this year because it went completely. I guess that means that 4 years is about the life expectancy. They should charge at just under 14 Volts on the gauge.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm a bit worried that it could be more serious though... As soon as I gave the car some gas, it came alive though...? :?

POST 4Original post

Is it a private sale Ali? If it is then get the guy to have the charging circuit checked out before you buy. If it's a garage then make sure that they agree to sort out any potential problem if you take it with that worry.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Its an independent garage, and he's assured me that it will be sorted before I buy... Let's keep fingers crossed!!!

POST 7Original post

Id walk away, why take the chance and have the the hassle. Theres loads of 911s to buy.
