As my June-delivery Cayman will be used in the Australian bush (aka scrub, prairie, desert, outback) I am thinking about installing a roo (short for kangaroo)bar (called a cow catcher in the States and probably a Moose or bear bar in Canada).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Surprisingly I don't believe that this is a standard Porsche option and I will therefore have to retrofit same. I write to enquire whether anyone has successfully sourced/retrofitted same.
ps a tip for os visitors to Oz - the roos are particularly bad at dawn and dusk therefore be particularly careful here when driving around those times.
Dude, that is the coolest post of all time. Sorry I have no good advice to offer, I just think that avoiding Kangaroos is unbelievable. Like driving through the zoo. Wow. Good luck, bro. Have you checked w/ the OZ Porsche club?? There ought to be a link to it on

Just a thought ... my only useful one ... kangaroos!! amazing!
If you hit a roo (or for that matter one of our bears) at speed they can be deadly although I hope that the aerodynamic shape of the Cayman will assist in deflecting the remains.
I have never hit a moose - in fact I have never seen one in the wild although I have just bought ahome in BC and look forward to that experience.I would be a bit worried about paint scratches from theantlers though (kangaroos don't have horns) therefore Isuspect that a Porsche moose bar would need to be significantly re-engineered to provide the same level of protection from wildlife that we require in Oz.
While installing roo bar might be necessary, I thinkit's kind of funny/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/teeth_smile.gif I just pictured having one installed on my Cayman and I can't stop smiling. I guess it might not be that funny if I would live in the outbacks of Australia, instead of Metro NYC area.
Liquidator,
That is an entirely possible retrofit for marsupial avoidance. See

for details. Here in south Louisiana we have Gator Scoops on many cars and trucks. Running over an 8 foot gator at night will certainly make it mad. The Scoopsis also good for *****, possums, and dillos. Got mine at Home Depot. LOL

yes - that concerns me as well. I would obviously have to colour-coordinate the roo-bar with the car's duco (silver in my case). I guess it is fortunate that I didn'torder a red car as kangaroos are attracted by this colour (Oz for color) - a bit like a red rag to a bull. I guess that the only advantage of a red roo-bar is that the roo blood doesn't show.
This has given me an idea for K-Man's logo competition - a crocodile chasing a kangaroo. Both are agile, lithe, fast and ferocious when cornered. It is also symbolic of the warm relationship shared by Americans and Australians. Just a thought.
Good news!
My car will be delivered next Saturday and the roo bar (aka cow/moose catcher)will be finished by the engineering workshopshortly thereafter. It should only take half a day to fit. Painted in silver to match exterior. I am so pleased as the thought of my new car being damaged by a roo was very concerning. The biggest problem is at traffic lights in country towns. In any event it will be easily removable for driving in one of the bigger cities eg Sydney as the kangaroos are few and far between there. I can also remove it for track driving providing the track is adequately fenced. Otherwise I suspect that my lap times (and handling) could be materially affected.
Photos to follow!
Of course!! Didn't you watch the tv programme 'Skippy' as a kid? The best approximation is to run your tongue along the top of your mouth quite quickly - it gives a kind of tut tut sound? Don't do this in the bush (prairie/scrub/outback etc) as this is their mating call and their eyesight is not good.
We can also install a whistle on the front of the car. The air flow produces an inaudible (to humans) high pitched noise which is supposed to scare the kangaroos and drop bears away. I suspect that this will soon be offered as an option by Porsche Australia.
My dealer has just called whilst I was writing this post - my Cayman has arrived!!! They need it until next Saturday to retrofit parktronic (I changed my mind re this option - luckily it is the same price here to retrofit) prepare etc. Will post pics of car later today.
