Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Please Help. Looking to buy a C4S or Turbo Not sure weather a newer C4S with low mileage is better than a 2001/2002 turbo with 45,000 50,000 mile turbo. Has any one gone from one to the other and regretted the change. I have owned super bikes, Evo's, M3's etc but this is the first Porsche. I am looking for something to enjoy at speed (legally of course) at the weekends:?:

POST 2Original post

Other than financial cost, I can't think why anyone would ever regret choosing a Turbo over a C4S!

POST 4Original post

Something for the weekend sir? Nice position to be in. If it is the speed you want then it has to be the Turbo - they are seriously fast and torque by the bucket load.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for quick replies, if a turbo are there many common faults and is the warranty a must.

POST 7Original post

The question is simply how much performance you need. Personally, I find the performance of the C4S more than enough for UK roads, and I love the engine noise, esp with the PSE (Porsche Sports Exhaust in case you were wondering, activated by a switch on the dash, not available on the TT). I also prefer the styling of the 4S. The Turbo is a great car though, either way you win. But I reckon if you had the chance to own a TT and did not, you might regret it. The Turbo actually has less potential issues than the standard cars, except the complexity of the turbo bits. Have a go with both and see what you think.

POST 8Original post

I've made the move from a C4S to a TT X50. I miss PSE desperately The C4S is a better road car for the UK in my opinion. Its got more than enough power unless you see yourself doing autobahn work and mile better economy. Its service schedule is quite a bit cheaper too in real terms. The TT is just too fast for most road applications (in the UK). Once the car has spooled up you are hard charging into triple figures. The acceleration is fun (you will leave most things for dust) but to be honest I wished I'd saved my money or gone for something more practical like an M5 (to carry the little one). The problem for me is that the TT is/was such a trophy car that I had to get it out of my system. Its something I aspired to for many many years and no doubt alot of C4S owners make the move because of this rather than the TT being supremely better. I'll no doubt keep it for a year or two - get it out of my system and then have a look at something fast but also practical. I fear that a Porsche won't be my next car which upsets me

POST 9Original post

I would personally go for a C4S on looks alone as it has many of the Turbo characteristics inc wide body, front air intakes but without the aggresive spoiler and intakes over the wheel arches. As for power etc, isn't a C4S good enough for mere mortals?

POST 10Original post

Having gone from a 996 Targa with PSE to a 996tt I have to agree with Gastro that the lack of PSE is a bit dissappointing. However there are plenty of after market pipes that puts the snarl back in - Cargraphic, Europipe,Tubi etc. These linked to a remap will put a standard 996tt in the 500bhp area 8) Is the 996tt too fast for UK roads? I don't think so. You just have to be aware that it will get into 3 figures very easily and very quickly. However it is the mid range grunt that is amazing, 40 -60 mph in a little over a second in 2nd gear makes overtaking quick and safe. The question of looks is down to personal taste. I love the side air vents and I love the "bi-planesque" spoiler. The turbo does look more agressive and to me it is the iconic 911. Servicing costs are higher due to the turbo's having to be removed to get at the spark plugs  but fuel economy is not much different to my old 996. So C4S or turbo? Obviously I am going to say Turbo for two reasons. 1. the tt is a lot quicker than a standard C4S and if coming from a superbike you will appreciate this. and 2. The looks of the tt. However I consider the TT more of a GT than an out and out sports car. It is a car that can be used everyday regardless of weather and is perfect for blasting through Europe. Having said all of that there is perhaps another option for you - A GT3. 2wd, no real drivers aids (PSM) and a lot more track focused. The "3" is much more of a drivers car than the C4s or the tt. If I was to have a car for weekend fun only it would probably be a "3" but I could not live with one 24/7. C4S, Turbo or GT3 - Nice position to be in. Happy hunting

POST 11Original post

I agree with Gastro. I have had my C4S for 2 years now and found myself gradually at first but increasingly as time passed (nothing to do with this forum i'm sure ;-)) pining after a tt. I even started looking for one in spring. For me the decision was a little different as i had to factor in the cost implication of selling my car to get a tt. In the end i realised that i love my car more than i had appreciated. I enjoy speed but i rarely(if ever) find the C4S lacks grunt. I suppose if i were to drive a faster car i may get a bigger buzz, but the C4S still does it for me. So i will be keeping my car for the forseeable. The tt is an icon and represent stupidly good value for a true supercar. If i were buying now i suspect i would get one due to this, but i am not convinced it would meet my needs as well as a C4S. I LOVE the PSE but as Dave says there are options for a tt, not sure how that affects warranty. a tt drove past me recently that sounded great. Lookswise i much prefer the lines of the C4S but that is down to personal taste. so rather surprisingly (to me at least) IMHO i think the C4S could be better choice.

POST 12Original post

Hi, I think there should be a C4S Vs TT FAQ !!! Both cars are great but the question any one in this situation has to ask themselves is what are they going to use the car for. I feel the C4S is a very practical car for road use. It has plenty of power and will get to 3 figures very quickly. The body shape is IMHO better than the TT due to not having holes in the rear  If you are going to be a track demon then really a no brainer it has to be a GT3. The TT is excellent value as stated and if I lived in Germany I would probably get one as I could benefit from the power but in this country a definate licence killer. However so is the C4S. Alan

POST 13Original post

Hi, A lot of similar opinions on either side and more of the same here I guess. For me the Turbo is the iconic 911 and always has been. I've never noticed much difference between the styling of C4S and Turbo although now the vents etc have been mentioned I much prefer the aggressive look of the TT and the intercooler vents look pretty purposeful to me. Never had a C4S but I have had a C4 Cab and I must admit the performance always seemed a little flat to me. Having said that I've had a lot of turbo cars and they are a bit addictive  I don't think a TT is too powerful for UK roads, I just think of it as the car staying in one place and the world turning a little faster underneath me. The torque and grip are sensational and very addictive. The TT doesn't have the same engine as the C4S and is generally reckoned to be more reliable / ducks leaves room. TT and C4S prices seem to have more or less converged at the moment which blurs things a little Actually none of that matters - drive both it is pointless trying to make this decision with your head - I know I couldn't.

POST 14Original post

Its a good situation to be in so you cant loose  I prefere a normally aspirated engine and if you didnt need the rear seats I would have a GT3 without hesitation as a daily driver... I recently drove the 997 TT and GT3 RS and for me personally the GT3 is king for driver involvement, the TT is just shockingly rapid but built for A-B high speed commuting rather than driving for the sheer pleasure of it. Wouldnt be too unhappy to have either BTW. Good hunting
