Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'Install shock' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Install shock' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Earlier ones used a smaller tank that apparently is easy to replace.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

After a 10 minute spirited drive it appears the coolant is leaking from the header tank area (dripping onto the exhaust).
Any ideas? It's just been serviced but the expansion pipe looks dry so I'm assuming a hose has split - it's not pouring out. It's very green and certainly doesn't look like any oil has mixed.
Ho hum
Have you checked it's not a loose or faulty coolant cap? My C4S had a faulty one and the header emptied itself because of the pressure loss. This will dump coolant over the exhaust too.
On GT3's there's a pressure relief valve that most leave in the locked position when the pressure builds up it should (when in the correct non-locked position) help release the pressure stopping the radiators or header from splitting dumping coolant.
Most common is a cracked coolant tank.
I had a leak, pull off the tank and upon close inspection found a tiny crack. Replaced the tank+cap and all is well.
I'll take it off and have a look. It's stopped leaking and doesn't leak when running having left it - the header tank fluid now looks just like water though.
What year 996? Earlier ones used a smaller tank that apparently is easy to replace. Late (mine's an 02) have a larger tank. A bit more work but still possible to do yourself. I had to lower the engine about 3-4 inches and remove one fuel rail. The best part, when you're done. it will take a week or two until the system purges itself and you stop adding coolant. You won't know it's fixed until then.
I will be more than annoyed if this is not covered under warranty, since the car was in with them about 2 months ago for a 111 point check and this is also the time I took out the warranty.
I am going to kick off.
But how easy is it to do this yourself then? Do you really have to drop the engine? I cannot actually see any other way to get to it, since there seems to be no room around it at all (it is a 996TT BTW).
Just called Tognola in Datchet and asked them what it would cost to fit one.
£150 + VAT for the part was correct.
But he reckons about 3 hours of labour, which with them works out at £50 an hour plus VAT.
