Suggestion

I wonder if all the companies that recommend lower tyre pressures would be prepared to replace the vehicle insurance if, after an accident, the insurance company decided not to pay out because the tyre pressures were not as recommended by the manufacturer.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

23 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

What would be the correct tyre pressure for a 996 C4s?

POST 2Original post

F - 36psi. R- 44psi. Same for all 996s. (Edit: with 18" wheels - 17" are 36psi all round).

POST 3Original post

Interestingly enough 911Sport in Horncastle, Lincolnshire have suggested reducing thesr pressures to 28 / 34 as this significantly reduces the HARD ride AND reduces tyre wear They recommend it to all customers Driving back from Lincolnshire to Shrewsbury was considerably more comfortable, not so hard. Seems to even feel the white lines less. My tyres have worn badly (Partly due to suspension wear)

POST 5Original post

My personal preference is to run mine (18s 285/35s & 225/40s) 4psi lower than recommended at 32f & 40r when cold. Much less harsh and the pressures soon rise to just below recommended.

POST 6Original post

Have a look at their website. Its a very professional company in Horncastle - Actually 911Sport See my blog earlier helped me out in a big way

POST 7Original post

I am sure that 911 Virgin recommended 32/40 when I bought a 996 C4S from them

POST 8Original post

Cant believe what a difference it has made. THe LInolnshire Roads are REALLY bad and this made it much more comfortable Get home to Shrewsbury and bumps feel much less hard GREAT HINT Thanks Phil and Steve[8D]

POST 9Original post

28 is too low for the front & it will influence how the tyres wear.

POST 10Original post

And 34 is too low for the rear IMO. I reckon up to 10% variation to suit personal preference would be about right, but close on 25% is a bit too much for me.

POST 11Original post

I also run mine at 32 front and 40 rear. 4 psi less i think is about right.

POST 12Original post

You’re right, Andy - this is what makes all the difference to tyre wear/ride harshness with 18s on these cars [ ]... i.e. around 4 psi all round lower than the Porsche quoted pressures when cold.

POST 13Original post

Ive read somewhere (not sure if its true or not) that the tyre pressures quoted are for a fully laden car.

POST 14Original post

No mention of vehicle loading in my handbook - just states tyre pressures (cold).

POST 15Original post

the nice man a porsche put a sticker under the bonnet lid with tyre pressure information, i use that. 75pno

POST 16Original post

"Trouble is same guy fitted the Intermediate shaft bearing" LOL.[ ][ ][ ]

POST 17Original post

Love the comment about the shaft!!! But he did do quite a good job otherwise!!!

POST 19Original post

I have had good results with my contis on road and track set to 32 psi

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks all for the input, much appreciated.

POST 21Original post

Stuart....is that 32 all round ? I have my tracking being done in Harston today and was querying the pressure to get some comfort and not lose out... If i still have a licence i will be out to play when the sun comes back !

POST 22Original post

I was recommended 28 34 It defiantly improves ride and hopefully tyre wear Iu just cant afford to replace tyres ever 8k The last 4 mm is much better I do not push the car, drive it very fast or corner hard Been there done that cant afford the tee shirt. I think if I was going out for a hard fast drive I would increase the tyre pressure to that recommended

POST 23Original post

Hi Richard Just a thought. I wonder if all the companies that recommend lower tyre pressures would be prepared to replace the vehicle insurance if, after an accident, the insurance company decided not to pay out because the tyre pressures were not as recommended by the manufacturer. Please note that I am not suggesting Insurance Companies will use any excuse not to pay out!!!!
