I really only NEED to replace the door speakers (as one of them is blown), but I've seen multiple people say to replace the whole speaker system when switching to PCCM+.

Also there's a panel in the passenger door that looks like it was added by a previous owner, should I purchase a new enclosure and install that when I'm replacing the speaker?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've got a '99 Carrera with the hi-fi package, I have no idea where to look or what I need in terms of new speakers. I have no attachment to OEM stuff as long as it fits, I'm looking for realistically the highest quality possible, I have no issue spending upwards of $2,000. I really only NEED to replace the door speakers (as one of them is blown), but I've seen multiple people say to replace the whole speaker system when switching to PCCM+. I really like the subs and would love to keep them but of course if it needs to be replaced it needs to be replaced. I've had trouble getting responses in regards to what speakers those people actual put in their vehicles in those same threads. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks so much!

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Also there's a panel in the passenger door that looks like it was added by a previous owner, should I purchase a new enclosure and install that when I'm replacing the speaker? How manageable are all these repairs for a newbie? Forgive the arrows in the picture. Thanks so much

POST 3Original post

With its current condition, I would take it to a reputable car audio shop and have them fix it and put whatever speakers they have on hand, especially if you have no issue with spending money on it, best to have them check it out and fix ALL the stereo issues else youre gonna be chasing electrical gremlins for the next 500 years judging by how Jerry rigged that set-up looks. And when I say reputable shop, find one that does custom fiberglass workcause that usually indicates they do higher end systems, not just plug and play. Another benefit is, if the previous owner really ****ed up the door/enclosure, they have the ability to make you a custom basket where the speaker is properly mounted and wont sound like trash.
