Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

SO i've replaced my CR22 unit (yes cassette) and replaced the woeful speakers for some JL Audio versions and had an amp installed but still the sound lacks real bass.

to be honest Demonfish the alpine was the first i looked at (its on sale in halfrauds) but when i went to the specialist i used (get me) he showed me the clarion one which is shallower than the alpine but still won;t fit under the 996 seat (without encroaching into the "back seat")

The door pods they had previously used for cabs (now pictured on a GT3 here)for mid range door speakers came in at ~£450 (not including speakers).
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

SO i've replaced my CR22 unit (yes cassette) and replaced the woeful speakers for some JL Audio versions and had an amp installed but still the sound lacks real bass. Rock is OK but anything with more of a synthesied or electronic bass "bottoms out" the speakers. Also using the becker ipod lead i'm constantly changing the sound to adjust and give some semblance of "nice" sound.
I've looked at the Prestige audio upgrade which puts 2 mid range speakers into each of the doors and uses 2 shallow mounted subs in the rear. However its an expensive job to buy the mounts separately and also means losing the lmiited storage space of the door pockets (pre-facelift 996 so no glovebox).
Has anyone found any good solutions for a sub? Clarion do a smallish shallow sub that looks more like an amp but it won't go under the seat due that gas strut that raises the seat and short of losing the limited floor space in the rear i don;t see anywhere it can really be mounted.
Looking at Rennlist i saw one guy had mounted shallow subs in his door and used the whole door as an enclosure for them. Has anyone tried this? Failing that has anyone got any good fixes or solutions? I know some of you have done some pretty complex (to me) audio upgrades so any suggestions will be welcome.
(Becker Grand prix headunit, JL Audio amp, 4xJL audio mid-range with built in tweeters)
thanks in advance. Mods don't know if this would sit better in "technical and gadgets" but it is specific to the 996 :?
can you fit something like this in?
http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product_m-alpine-swd-1600_p-21071.htm
then stick a 100hz filter on the rest of the speakers, you may be able to do this on your head unit...

Do you use the rear seats? You could fabricate two 6-8" boxes behind the driver & passenger seats.
Alternatively you could use the passenger footwell and drop an 8" in there under the floormats.
we don't use the rear seats but i'd like to keep it as standard as possible in that respect. how deep wouold an 8" be? (oh i'm laying myself open for comment now right.... )
The Bose sub enclosure that comes with the premium sound package in the coupe looks great and doesn't compromise the seats at all. They do come up on fleabay occasionally (in fact there is one there at the moment that ends sometime tomorrow) - guess you'd have to live with the bose subs in it though or perhaps another manufacturer makes slim subs you could glue in.
Or have you got a cab in which case ..scratch the above!
the other option is to deaden your doors - trust me, i'm qualifed in these matters...
a few layers of dynamat on the back of the door skin, and all over the inner skin, couple with some 50hz bass blockers, and you will be VERY suprised at the outcome...
For anyone thats interested i went down to see my local ICE specialist this morning.
In short, no easy way of mounting a sub without either encroaching on rear footwells (not an option sadly) or doing a custom type install.
If anyone's in a similar position this is what i'm now looking at:

I'll get a quote on these new ones and post when i have more info.
(Demonfish, top idea on the dynamat but i'm going to wait and do the whole thing in one go. Thanks for the advice though)
