Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

2 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Now I can look forward to the hassel of getting it in, getting it fixed and getting it back; at 1356 miles, damn.

POST 1Original post

Only 1356 miles on my new white CS after three months ownership. Business travels kept me from putting on enough mileage to get past the break in. Until three days ago there were no mechanical problems or issues. There shouldn't be, it's a brand new car. Two days ago I started to notice it becoming harder to shift into first and reverse. The longer the engine ran the harder the shifting became (the less the clutch worked). I chalked it up to "it's a new car and must be tight" and tried to put it aside. This morning I headed out for a deli a good way away on purpose. I noticed the hard shifting after about 5 mi and a strange feeling in the clutch. It was not returning smoothly. Once depressed it only returns half it's travel unless you pop it back up with your toe. I first started to detect several days ago that it seemed to be catching mid peddle and then snapping back. That got progressively worse until the clutch became useless today. It became less and less effective during this 20 mile round trip until nearly reaching home, then quit working altogether.. I coasted into my driveway. The car would not shift into first, reverse or any gear at that point. I shut it off and went inside pretty disgusted. I could not even pull it into the garage, figured I would be pushing it. How embarrassing is that? About a half hour later I started the thing and was barely able to get it into first and into the garage. Now what? Anyone experience anything similar? Naturally this sort of thing always happens on Sunday. I love the idea of having to return this car to the dealership for surgery with 1300 miles. I am torn between trying to drive it in or calling for a flatbed. It will probably have to be carried. I hate that reliability could become a concern this early in the experience with this car. Now I can look forward to the hassel of getting it in, getting it fixed and getting it back; at 1356 miles, damn. The saga begins. I will post the experience with Porsche, the problem and outcome when it's over.

sorry to hera this - quite frustrating I am sure. Seems to be a reasonably "common" experience - try "clutch problems" in the search function.

POST 3Original post

Considering there's slightly more than 8,000 '06 Cayman Ss in the world, I wouldn't call this a "common" occurance, but there have been many reports here on the CC of trouble on some cars with the clutch/pressure plate bolts not being torqued correctly during assembly. There have also been reports of clutch slave cylinders failing, which can also result in what you experienced. While it's a hug hassle, no one from what I can tell who has reported the clutch/gearbox problems has had any troube getting it fixed quickly under warranty. Get the roadside assistance to tow it to your dealer, explain to them the problems, and they should be able to fix it. Here's a huge thread with more than 200 posts: http://www.planet-9.com/showthread.php?t=2790&highlight=clutch+shifting brad
