I have torn entire dash boards out of cars and repaired many harnesses/looms.

In the US most states have lemon laws that state after something like 3-5 repair attempts for the same problem if it isn't fixed you can return the car for a refund or another one (variance by state of course).

However at the dealer visit the checks revealedthat a misfire had occurred once on number six cylinder at some point.A coil is now on order and the car needs to be at the dealership for nearly a day as the engine needs to be cold for them to change the coil.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Right at turning 4,000 miles my computer beeped and showed a
PASM
failure. The Sport mode would not turn on for both
Sport Chrono
and
PASM
. In addition engine light came on. When I turned the ignition off and turned the igntion back on both came back and were working fine. Just as I assumed everything had reset and was working fine I stoped at a store and after turning the ignition off again and getting back in and starting the car the Sport Crono worked but the
PASM
would not come on. Will take it in Monday and get an update on the problem. Hopefully nothing serious.
Skup,
The Same thing happened to me last week at about 4000 miles as well. my airbag light is on as well as problems with the stereo. The stereo jumps from CD to FM, screen goes black but radio is on, cant turn it off or adjust volume back and forth like that. I drove it yesterday and the pasm system seemed to now work fine as did the stereo. I go into the dealer on wed the 19th. Hope full they will be able to sort out what happened, reset it etc. The dealer is 45 minutes away and I sure as hell do not want to have to run up there alot chasing an electrical gremlin
I had
PASM
failure twice today in 200 miles of driving, mainly on the motorway Both times stopping and restarting the car reset the system. When the failure sign came on the suspension went into
PASM
Sport mode but the
PASM
and Sport buttons would not work toturn it off. I had not switched
PASM
or Sport on myself.Tookthe carto the dealer whochecked for error messages which said one of the shock absorbers was not communicating fully but they did not know which one. They reset the software and it is fine again.
However at the dealer visit the checks revealedthat a misfire had occurred once on number six cylinder at some point.A coil is now on order and the car needs to be at the dealership for nearly a day as the engine needs to be cold for them to change the coil.
I had the exact same sequence of events but the dealer said there were NO faults so nothing they could or would do. 1000 miles later and still no repeat problem so I'm hopefull it was just a low battery.
The
PASM
and Sport failure is back on my car.The
PASM
comes on by itself and I also get a Sport failure message. This issue is now happening quite often. The car is going to the dealer on Tuesday and they are loaning me a car. They can keep my car until it's fixed
Redeye - they were not expecting any or much I guess given thereare very few
PASM
issues on planet-9.com unless not many people have
PASM
New ECUfitted 28/09has fixed the issue

My
Cayman S
had a new
PASM
ECU a few weeks ago and the
PASM
system has been fine since until yesterday when the
PASM
failure and Sport failure warnings came on again. The suspension goes into full stiff
PASM
Sport but the Sport throttle settings do not work. You have to stop the car and restart it to clear the issue. Yesterday in 90 miles of driving I stopped three times because of this issue. The OPC wants the car again for a fourth time but I doubt if they know what the problem is.
I am surprised that this seems an uncommon fault. It is certainly frustrating and makes me think they should replace the car as it has only done 2,400 miles.
Any comments?
Thankfully I haven't had any
PASM
issues. Since they replaced the
PASM
ECU I wonder if the
next
step is to start replacing struts as maybe one of them is indeed bad and tripping a fault?
K-Man S - thanks, yes I suggested it could be a strut(s) to the OPC but they think its some electrical issue with the ECU. I dont think they have much
PASM
experience although they are one of the larger dealers in the UK. I am leaving the car with them until its fixed.
PASM Failure - change of wiring loom
After a week at the OPC they have found an issue with the wiring loom. The solution is to replace the loom completely. Perhaps the loo is of the wrong spec.
Issues as I see them
1. 26 days waiting for a loom to be built as they say they are built to the spec of the car
2. 6 days to strip the car and fit the loom - virtually all the interior is removed and various other components
3. The car was obviously faulty when new and they will not convince me of its integrity after suach a major job at a local OPC
Options as I see it:
1. Get a full refund on the car - it has 2,400 miles recorded
2. Return it to the factory for the work to be done there
3. Replace with another CaymanS of equal new value and preferably to the same spec
Advise please on what you would be thinking if your car had the same issue?
Thanks, Roger
Depends on the laws in your country probably, but I doubt they will send a car back to Finland, Porsche is more apt to repair or replace it. Which you can get is likely controlled by the laws in your state or country. In the US most states have lemon laws that state after something like 3-5 repair attempts for the same problem if it isn't fixed you can return the car for a refund or another one (variance by state of course).
I would push this to the GM at the dealership and tell them you want another non-defective car to the same spec and let them figure out what to do with the other one. Although I've had major portions of my interior apart it was nothing like having a complete wiring harness replaced.
Ken - I infomed the OPC on 28/10 that I will not have the car back and a replacement car to a specification that suits me is one solution and the other is a complete refund of the purchase price.
It surprises me that they just ordered a new loom and did not call me to inform me of their plans to strip the car.
There is no information on this web site about anyone having to have a complete loom installed and I doubt that it happens very often on a
Porsche
.
I am expecting the OPC GM to speak to me tomorrow 30/10, if not I will be going to see him. Roger
The reason for the
PASM
failure on my
Cayman S
is that the wiring loom connector behind the dash board is faulty. This is a multi wire connector where the wires for
PASM
do not connect correctly.
The OPC are replacing the car and I awaiting to hear when the new one is to be delivered. I have said
PASM
and
Sport Chrono
are must have's and Tiptronic is a definite no. I await the details of what is available. The current car will be rewired I assume and then sold as a used vehicle.
Wow.... While reading about their intentions to replace the whole wiring harness (loom as you called it) the hairs on the back of my neck were standing up.
I've spent many years working on cars, specializing in electrical. I have torn entire dash boards out of cars and repaired many harnesses/looms. I would never want to replace one. It just doesn't make sense because it requires so much disassembly of the car. No one will ever get the car back together exactly as it was before it was disassembled. I would never allow anyone to to this to any car that I own.
If the plug is bad, then they should man up, cut it off, break out the soldering iron, solder on all new pins and assemble a new plug. This is a lot less work, delivers a better than new result, and is far less intrusive to the rest of the car. But unfortunately they won't do this because your typical auto mechanic today is no mechanic at all. They are parts changers. They point fingers at parts and then replace them, as demonstrated by the fact that they already erroneously replaced the
PASM
ECU. What happens if their diagnosis of the bad harness/loom is as accurate as their previous diagnosis of the
PASM
ECU?
Asking for a new car is a good idea.... If they are going to change that harness that car will never be right.
