Heres a weird one I discovered today.
If you leave the Sport Chrono running, the CD player or radio does not work the next day! What the heck?
This is what I did:
1. Playing CD on the way home in front stacker.
2. Activate SC timer. Get some time on the timer. I got about 10mins.
3. Turn engine off while timer is still running. Seems innocent enough to me.
4. Get out and lock car.
5. Next day, unlock and start her up.
6. CD seems to be playing but no sound. All controls looks ok and the display looks ok and indicates activity. At any volume setting, nothing was to be heard. Play with as many controls as you like with no effect. Radio has no volume either. Strange.
Now thinking I will be going back to the shop.
7. Stop at the shop to buy a paper. Turn off and lock etc.
8. Get back, start her up and hey presto, the radio and CD is working again! What the?
I dont recall if I change the SC settings.
I’ll try this same sequence again tonight and see what happens.
Any reports of anything similar?
Unless I have done something else dumb or this is associated with something else then it looks to be an electronic system bug.
I tried turning mine off with the sc running with no trouble on the restart but I only waited 30 seconds or so without the key in the ignition. I also have PCM which may be different as well.
Actually this may just be related to teh CD sometimes not responding which is a known glitch in the Porsche radio/CD player that seems to happen at random. It will be interesting to see if anyone else can force it to not work via this method though.
Sounds like you have one of the dodgy stereos. Check out the Complaints forum for more info.
But basically the stereo will stop working at random times. Sometimes it looks like it is playing but there will be no sound. And sometimes you will get a "STOP" message in the stereo screen and nothing happens whatsoever?
Well so far I cant get it to reproduce the same problem.
Everything was working and the play time was still advancing but the speakers were just cut off. I figure there is a control relay to the speakers somewhere that was open because there was no low level hiss.
Anyway I will see if it pops up again later or not.
