Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Now a few months and a few grand into ownership. Here's an update. Its been with a Porsche Specialist getting a full service and a few other things sorted. I had a leak! Carpet was wet. The window had dropped a bit. New Window regulator and door membrane sorted it. Leak is sorted, but if I park on a steep road camber, the higher side leaks where the mirror controls are. Park it dead flat and its fine! Also a New Heater Matrix and oil pressure switch. It needs a new ignition switch. Just ordered one. I'm going to try and replace that myself. Loving the car. So great to drive. I notice it is quite thirsty around town. But that is to be expected. I want to get some 18in Turbo Twists on it. Anyone have a set for sale? Considering they were probably fitted to most 996s, they seem to be quite expensive. Would also love to get Cruise Control fitted. Anyway, so far, so good!

Where are you located? I had cruise retrofitted on mine in Yorkshire and they did a great job at a great price. Doing some of those jobs would've saved you a fortune if you don't mind having a play with the spanners. When I got my 996 10 years ago I was frightened to death of touching it, now I'm frightened to death of anyone else touching it and do most the work myself........mostly thanks to this forum and some of the members on it. Mine used to leak in around the mirror on the passenger door. There's a small tube that runs down the inside of the seal channel right where the mirror is. I took it out and since then it doesn't leak. Have you still got your german helmet on it (hardtop).....if so it may be that that's causing the window to sit in a slightly different position and allowing water to get in around that area.

Oh yes, the 18" turbo twist II (as they're known as) aren't that common on a standard 996 either. The old style 17" twists were that have a convex pattern rather than the 996 turbo concave ones. The ones (on mine) are the winter turbo alloys that we for turbo owners who wanted a set of winter wheels instead of risking damaging their hollowspoke twists. These were offered as an optional extra on a base 996 but you don't see many around. Standard common 996 twist: 18" 996 turbo twist II:

Great looking car - you have one of my favourite set of wheels on currently. Like Alex says - lots of money can be saved by doing some jobs yourself. Really easy cars to work on and lots of help on this forum if you get stuck. Cruise is an easy install - lots of independents are doing them. Just check your local ones. From memory it cost £500 on my last 996 to have it fitted. Enjoy!

Facebook market place seems to be the place for getting good deals these days as the platform doesn't charge fees. What's not to like: £750 with tyres on - https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/349064334722341/

Hollow spokes? I ask as I’m not FB user.

POST 7Original post

No, they're the solid spoke winter wheels like on my 996.

POST 8Original post

Quotes source post: 2684988

So are winter wheels the same as hollow spokes but solid? I thought the turbos got the hollow spokes and other models with the same design were supplied with solid spokes.

POST 9Original post

The C4S have solids that are the same size as hollows. The turbo winter wheels that are solid are slightly narrower on the rear.

That makes sense. And these narrower winter wheels are what fit onto regular bodied 993s, if I’m not mistaken.

POST 11Original post

Probably. They're on my 996. I still fit 295 on them though (same as the wider turbo wheels) and they fit fine and also give a bit of extra wall thickness to avoid curbing.

Thanks Alex. I'm in South West London. Could be a trip to Yorkshire! I can do a bit myself, but nothing mechanical. Reckon I can just about handle the ignition switch! Thanks for the heads up on that tube. I'll take a look. Fingers crossed, though its not leaking right now and theres been a lot of rain!

Thanks @corneg1 Are the 17in wheels I have on now desirable? I do like them, but feel like the car needs 18s. Were the wheels I have 996.2 wheels? they don't feature in the 996.1 brochure I have. I will try and find a local garage to do the Cruise fit. Will make a huge difference! I do quite a bit on motorways.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Re Turbo Twists. Some are completely smooth around the outer edge, like the wheel in your first image, but some have a small groove around the outer edge. Are these actually boxster wheels? Like these. Wheels
