Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

As I say, I seem to be extravagant with respect to changing my car!!
Leading evidence: 'Replace car' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace car' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. My auto AC has never started up at any other temp other than its previous setting (even in Texas sun.)

It should deafult to the last setting (i.e Auto and a Temperature setting).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My Cayman S turned up last week - Yippeee! and she is Gorgeous. I've had a Boxster 2.7 and a Boxster S before so am familiar with most stuff.
Guards Red, PASM, Sports Chrono Plus, PCM, Telephone module, Heated Seats, etc etc
Now to my questions.
1.
The flappy partition screen that separates engine deck from rear boot and clips to the underside boot lid. Mine ratttles like crazy because one corner just touches the aluminium piece on the rear inside deck. I've put a plastic pad on the deck to stop it, but clearly this is just temporary - even though its discreet and works fine. Does anyone else have this issue? I could get a replacement, but I think it is really a design issue, not just this one screen. It doesn't make sense to have hard plastic corners that are clearly going to touch the aluminium deck when bouncing around.
2.
The Auto A/C defaults to LOW and Full Air Blower everytime I turn the engine on. This is surely not normal. It should deafult to the last setting (i.e Auto and a Temperature setting). Am I doing something wrong, or is there a fault?
Otherwise the car is just fantastic. That engine noise makes my hairs stand on end!
ttc546,
My "flappy thing" touches the aluminum cross member piece in back sometimes too. I've found that if I bend the flexible arm of the flappy piece a little I can get it to stop until eventually it bends back down and touches lightly again and I repeat the process. I'll probably bend it harder next time or just take it out altogether. I found that it only happens on the driver side for me.
I don't have auto climate control so I don't have your other issue.
Hope that helps!
BTW this thread belongs in the Cayman Complaints forum so I'll move it there.
Congrats on the new car!
No, that isn't correct. My CS has the auto climate control, and it always starts up in whatever setting it was in when the car was shut off. You need to call the dealer (you can ask them to fix #1 at the same time).
Good Luck,
Bill
My flappy thing (I guess that's going to become its technical term now) doesn't rattle until I drive with the windows open. At that point it truly becomes flappy from the buffetting. Unless I drive high speed with the windows down it is fine.
My auto a/c only goes to max when there is a huge difference between the cabin temp and the set temp. This happens when I start the car after it sits in the Florida summer sun for hours. Since it is cooler now, it doesn't go to max on startup since it doesn't have to.
Yep I've had the flappy thing issue and took it to the OPC twice and they couldn't sort it so I took it out! They said they have had plenty of people with the same issue.
On The Flappy thing (i.e. the Privacy Screen I assume) it is a spring loaded locking mechanism. Make sure the screws are fully pushed in before turning and locking them. Often this is the problem, i.e. the service folks didn't lock it in right.
Since the item in question is called a "luggage cover" in the Owner's Manual, maybe we could use that name (instead of acting like a bunch of children trying to describe a ...).
Even without it making noises, I see no value to this item. And it only comes in black, so doesn't even match many interiors. I plan on removing it before I even leave the dealership.
Well, the OPC solved the Climate Control question - more of a case of RTFM
On the PCM :-
Select > Main.
Select > Set,
Select > Individual Memory,
Select > Climate,
Select > Climate Control Memory
You can then select whether it remembers the previous settings or not. Problem solved!!
The "flappy thing" or "luggage cover" - I will just continue with the cushion pad. It seems to be a common issue by all accounts and I can't be bothered to keep bending the frames everytime it suffers from "brewers droop"
Now, another problem - how am I going to keep my driving licence with this car? I keep wanting to plant the accelarator to the metal just to hear the engine sound!
Well done, crocrr — that joke needed to be made!
ttc546, hello. Glad you got your flappy thing, etc. sorted. Sorry, mate, but not even RTFM will save your driving license in that car. About your sig; do you own all those cars currently?
I wish! They are just the years in which I owned and then re-sold for the next one
No, I seem to have an extravagant taste for changing my car each year.
The CS will stay with me for about 3 yrs though. I can't afford to keep doing this!!
The TT was my first foray into "nice" cars. Enjoyed it immensely.
The Boxster 2.7 was my first "Porker" and enjoyable.
The Boxster "S" was my dream car of the time. I ordered many options and lost the entire value when I sold. Lesson to be learned there.
The Z4 was because I had to sell the "S" to move house. I then climbed back up the Sports car ladder to the Z4 - however, I never really "fell in love" with the car like I had done with the Boxster S
The Cayman S is my dream boat
I also had a BMW 330 Ci as a commute-to-work car in addition to the Boxster S, but then had no need for it, when I moved house to be nearer work.
As I say, I seem to be extravagant with respect to changing my car!! The money I have lost as the result of depreciation would make me cry - if I tried to work it out ......
