Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

My 47k miles 996 has been very reliable, but infrequently used so far this year.

The irony is that I’ve just paid a 4 figure sum at a well known Indy for a major service (less than 100 miles ago) who gave the car a clean bill of health and I’m due to leave for a trip to Scotland in a couple of weeks!
Leading evidence: 'Use so far this year' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean bill of health and i’m due' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

Yes, it's power steering, it will be one of the two O rings (replace both) that sit the other side of that plastic bracket.

I had a better look and tried a couple of normal spanners in the meantime (I’m lacking the right tools for this) but there isn’t the room to tighten anything.

This morning, with the sun shining and not needing to use the family wagon, I thought I’d take the 996 for my 13mile commute into Bath where I work.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Morning. I was hoping my first post would be an introduction, but that will have to wait! My 47k miles 996 has been very reliable, but infrequently used so far this year. This morning, with the sun shining and not needing to use the family wagon, I thought I’d take the 996 for my 13mile commute into Bath where I work. I started it and before I got off the drive it was making a horrible grinding noise. Having stopped and looked at the engine I can see a significant leak of fluid green, oily, fluid coming from top right hand side of the engine bay. I’m guessing it’s power steering or air-con related? The irony is that I’ve just paid a 4 figure sum at a well known Indy for a major service (less than 100 miles ago) who gave the car a clean bill of health and I’m due to leave for a trip to Scotland in a couple of weeks! Any ideas or moral support would be welcome as I wait for the Indy to open to discuss options and recovery.
Yes, it's power steering, it will be one of the two O rings (replace both) that sit the other side of that plastic bracket. A bit of a pain to undo the joints, you'll need crows foot spanners, I think 15mm and 17mm, to undo. I had to replace mine recently when PS fluid was dripping on to my exhaust manifold and causing a lot of smoke.
You will need to drain some PS fluid unless the leak has already done that for you?
Infrasilver, many thanks for the reply. It does appear to be the union, so hoping it is an easy fix. without knowing the extent of the issue earlier, I got it scheduled for recovery to the Indy in the next hour. I had a better look and tried a couple of normal spanners in the meantime (I’m lacking the right tools for this) but there isn’t the room to tighten anything. Need to buy more tools as most of my collection is based around messing around with motorbikes! Thanks again.
Car has been collected. To make my day even better the driver managed to dent my engine cover whilst pushing my car onto the bed of the truck. The recovery business owner has immediately been in contact and promised to fix it… which is good. But, Aaaaggghhh!
