I used a scope to look into the A pillars on a Golf once to track down a leak from bad adhesive application when the winshield was replaced.

Thank you very much for responding, the witness marks I think show the water direction I havent cleaned the area to hopefully give me clues as to where the water may be coming in

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
16 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Hi Guys
Please can somebody help me?
I have cleaned out all the usual suspects around the roof, drainage holes around the roof edges and the drip trays
I have checked the AC drain and no water or blocked drain
I have noticed the central drain is missing the water bladder, am I correct in thinking that there should be a ninety degree pipe that exits into the wing? I used an endoscope and noticed a bladder pipe had been pushed inside the void, I poured some water into the central drain hole and hardly any water came out.......
Here below are a couple of pics of the AC drain pipe
I don't know the model well enough to comment of this specific drain. However, a good way to locate water is to get in the car and have someone hose it gently like a rain shower. That will show where it's entering and maybe if you're lucky give you a trail of clues to follow, good luck.

Thank you very much for responding, the witness marks I think show the water direction I havent cleaned the area to hopefully give me clues as to where the water may be coming in
What's up with the wiper assembly? That looks weird, that hold down strap too does not look factory either but I've never been under the hood of your model. I mention that because if it was a used car perhaps the PO created a leak spot without knowing.
Thats interesting Boris, I had never thought of that, the car is I think one of the very first
987.1
, perhaps in years after the
987.1
was introduced they changed and modified parts I'm guessing
Personally speaking this was at a time when
Porsche
were facing the realistic possibility of closing their doors for good, I think when you look at certain parts of various cars, especially the
Boxster
and
Cayman
from this era you can see where corners have been cut and you wonder what the hell were they thinking, but it still doesn't stop me loving the cars though
No, the "what the hell were they thinking" is normal for
Porsche
. I swear it's almost as if they have advanced engineering working on some things and Amish farmers on others.
Can you tell if that is the original windshield? As posted earlier you might want to get in the car and have some one spray it with a hose. I used a scope to look into the A pillars on a Golf once to track down a leak from bad adhesive application when the winshield was replaced.
I can't agree that
Porsche
has areas with lesser hardware. For what its worth this is what my car looks like in that area. Note the clip holding the AC line in image 79 it's factory and different. I used the small images if you want a bigger one let me know. The perforated strap and hardware? I think that was added after a repair.
Agreed, I had a similar issue on a Saturn in the past. Fortunately, the windshield caught a rock soon after, and it was replaced by insurance (and sealed properly this time).
I was wondering if the windscreen cowl at the base of the wind screen, should have some kind of sealant or gasket to hold it to the windscreen?
Kind Regards
Nick
The plastic cowl isn't usually a seal for the windshield. The windshield is usually sealed to the car from behind the glass, where it is not in direct line of the environment.
Note, just because the leak is at the footwell, doesn't mean the leak is on the bottom of the windshield. The Saturn I mentioned had a leak at the top, and the water found its way to the side, down the A-pillar, and then behind the plastic and carpeting until it settled in the footwell and rose from behind. Basically, there was no visible indication of where the water was coming from until I took the interior panels off the car, and poured water across the top... then I would see it trickling in on the side of the footwell area.
Hi Schwinn
Yeah Im going to try that as well, I want to fix the windscreen cowl with some sealant etc....it drives nuts the way it climbs on the outer edges, and all other previous cars I have driven have the cowl sealed in some way to the windscreen
