I've just fitted Koni Special Actives with H&R springs on mine, which I converted to RWD, and having Geo done tomorrow morning.

It was several years ago when I changed my C2 suspension but I also needed new front bump stops (rear were fine), all drop links needed to be cut off and I also destroyed the ABS sensors as they were seized along with the front suspension strut pinch bolts which were a real ***** to remove.

The one bit of info I found was that the pre 02 cars used a much firmer top mount than later cars, but that is the difference between pre 02 and post 02 996 mounts, and that seems to be out the window in regards to what they will sell you today.

Obviously they're available for much less than this, but do these need to be high tensile steel (zinc plated) or can I use stainless A2?

Suggestion
If you were to also replace coffin arm then you would most likely also need new eccentric camber bolts.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all, I've got a set of Bilstein B8 and H&R lowering springs to go on my 2002 996 Turbo (standard suspension) and am a little lost as to what other parts I will need to fit these to my car. I was hoping to tap into the hivemind to get an answer!
I'm already going to get new top mounts, I understand OEM are best for street use and I assume I'll need the MO30 / IX74 versions for the shorter struts and springs?
What else will I need - bump stops, belows, any of the spacers etc?
Not touching the rest of the suspension at this poiunt (coffin arms etc), just looking to swap over the struts and springs.
Thanks for any help offered!
When I did the same swap, (B6's though) I needed to change my front bump stops, they were shot. Hopefully your drop links come off okay, if not you'll need them?

Thanks for the tips all. Anyone got any views on the top mounts and whether the standard or MO30 Versions should be used with the shorter B8 dampers and lowering springs?
The main issue with going with non M030, and most go with the later 997 fronts as they are much cheaper, is not getting enough negative camber, however, if you are going with B8 and H&R I don't think that will be an issue at all.
I could never work out if the difference was angle or the durometer/firmness of the rubber used on them.
I was told it was firmness.
If that is the case, I would go with non M030 with B8s, they are a very, very firm damper.
Thanks for the info - am I right in thinking these are the 997 turbo part numbers for front standard top mounts and will fit my 996 Turbo tip?

Fits:
Porsche 997 C4 / C4S MKI 2007-08
Porsche 997 C4 / C4S MKII 2009-12
Porsche 997 TURBO MKI & MKII 2007>>
Yeah they will fit.
There was some discussion about whether the 997 mounts allowed you to get enough negative camber compared to 996 mounts, however, when you lower you get a smidge more negative camber, so I don't think it is an issue.
I used them and got -0º.54' on the front with M030 springs, which is enough for the road and about what I had with the OEM M030 996 top mounts.

I was going to say, Spyder have these...

I will just say that although Porsche now supply all C2 owners with 997 top mounts, the 997xxxx part number superseded the 996xxxx part number a few years ago, they do still supply a 996xxx part number for AWD cars, so there must be a difference.
I know loads of people use the 997 part because it is so much cheaper, but there maybe/must be a compromise somewhere?

There was talk of the post 02 cars getting slightly stronger/stiffer strut supports than the earlier cars too, but I could never find any more info on that either.
Thanks for all your help!
Just looking at bolts and nuts and Porsche want £70 for 8 of each!!
